A Server Administrator is responsible for the on-premise computer servers of the organization, ensuring on a daily basis that they are running efficiently by performing updates and maintenance tasks on hardware and software, resolving technical faults, overseeing their activity levels, ensuring server security, and developing new system structures when necessary. The server administrator is also responsible for the administration of the company’s cloud infrastructure and hosted solutions.
To be a successful candidate, an Associate Engineer should be:
- Overall operational administration of the organization’s on-prem server infrastructure including Citrix XenApp, VMware, Vsphere, Windows print servers and NetApp storage systems.
- Ensure the availability, scalability, and performance of company's server, data centers and overall IT infrastructure.
- Assist in supporting, planning and optimizing the Company’s on-premises infrastructure.
- Support the transition to and administration of M365 and other cloud-hosted services (SaaS, IaaS, etc.).
- Participation in IT and business-driven initiatives including upgrades and other cloud migration projects.
- Assist with the implementation of data, software, hardware and data center security procedures.
- Maintain and up-keep of relevant documentation pertaining to configuration changes to and life-cycle of servers and other infrastructure equipment or systems.
- Further development of client and server technologies and the automation of IT processes.
- Support IT department team members with client administration and operation of technologies and products such as Microsoft Windows client operating systems and client virtualization, printers, scanners, etc.
- Solution-oriented with a strong sense of responsibility to act independently on technical matters relating to systems administration.
- Analyzing, qualifying and processing IT faults and IT service requests in Tier 2 level.
- Work alongside the Company’s network administrator, application programmers and service desk team to provide technical advice and support to users.
- Managing the Company’s external vendors for various IT services and devices.
- Willingness to work in a collaborative team environment; team members can be on-site or in HQ (Germany).
- Ability and willingness to be part of after-hours emergency IT on-call response team.
- Ability to develop and maintain liaison with systems administrators from other MTU locations.
- Ability to communicate in an effective way and for diverse audiences, both written and orally.
Requirements for this position include:
- Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or similar discipline.
- + 6 years of experience in systems or server administration in a Microsoft Active Directory environment.
- Preference given to applications with +3 years of experience in the following:
- VMware / vSphere administration (including configuration, creation of VM’s, license administration, applying OS updates, troubleshooting faults, documentation, etc.).
- Or completion of foundational course VMware vSphere: Install, Configure, Manage (V8) or currently holds a VMWare certificate in Data Center Virtualization 2022 (VCP-DCV 2022).
- NetApp on-premise storage systems (including configuration, applying OnTap version updates, troubleshooting faults, etc.).
- Or completion of foundational course ONTAP Cluster Administration (ONTAP9ADM).
- IT project management focusing on infrastructure systems and improvements.
- Expert knowledge and extensive experience in TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, DFS and other newer Microsoft technologies such as In-tune.
- Expert knowledge in Microsoft SCCM.
- Expert knowledge on other virtualization technologies such as Citrix XenApp, Hyper-V, and other virtualization software.
- Expert knowledge and extensive experience in Microsoft M365 and Azure.
- Advanced level of understanding of network fundamentals including routers, switches and firewalls (OSI layer 3 and up).
- Experience with client and server security and network technologies such as firewalls and certificate management (SSL, PKI, 802.1x).
- Experience with data back-up and disaster recovery solutions.
- Reliable, organized, and disciplined.
- Strong communication skills.
