We are currently recruiting for a CNC Programmer (12-month Contract) for our Brampton, Ontario location. 


JOB SUMMARY: 


The CNC Programmer/Operator creates CNC (Computer Numerical Control) Programs for the shop floor Machines and is responsible for interpreting project drawing, programming toolpaths and modifying, optimizing, and monitoring manufacturing processes. This individual also performs setup and operations of the machines when required. 

ACCOUNTABILITIES: 

  • Create CNC programs using MasterCam for Brother 3 axis mill with rotary table and STAR high speed, 2 head, 2 axis lathes.
  • Select tools and fixtures to support CNC programs. Design or select any tool, jigs or fixtures for part manufacture.
  • Create process set-up sheets and tool setup sheets for CNC machined components.
  • Interface with production, Engineering, and quality to ensure that all manufacturing processes are proven prior to the start of production.
  • Work alongside the CNC Machinists to setup machines as required to meet production schedule.
  • Operate any needed machines to keep production output aligned to the schedule.
  • Perform first off and in process dimension checks on production parts.
  • Participate in shop custodial operations including chip spinning, packing of turning in drums and general shop cleanliness efforts.
  • Set up, troubleshoot and/or operate one or more of the following machine(s), using vises, fixtures, chucks, etc., concurrently in assigned area under limited supervision: CNC lathe, CNC mill, bandsaw, manual mill, manual drill press, and other power tools.
  • Read and interpret technical drawings to set-up parts appropriately to ensure conformity and cycle time requirements.
  • Load programs into CNC machine or transfer CNC programs between CNC equipment.
  • Enhance and follow approved work instructions and drawings provided.
  • Operate one or more of the following machines: CNC Lathe, CNC Mill, manual mill, manual lathe, manual drill press, grinders, and other power tools.
  • Strive to hit 100% first time throughput on setup's and expedited through the QC department.
  • Perform basic machine adjustments, if necessary (ex. tool offsets).
  • Read and interpret technical drawings to verify machined parts.
  • Visually or mechanically inspect parts for defects (cracks, chips, dimension, surface finish, etc) as part of in-process inspection; records result and notifies lead/supervisor of deviation as appropriate.
  • Comfortable to use the following for measuring and inspection: various types of micrometers and calipers, height gauge, indicators, edge finders, thread gauges, pin gauges, and bore gauges with master ring.
  • Understands and meets or exceeds production and quality standards; seeks to minimize reject rate.
  • Follows approved work instructions and drawings provided.
  • Required to perform some simple machine preventative maintenance functions, i.e. checking coolants, checking lubricants, and changing filters, etc. Perform minor maintenance on the tooling or fixtures as required. Remove cuttings from any of the machines as required.
  • Keeps machines and work area clean; notifies supervisor or maintenance when machine abnormalities occur.
  • Possess the ability to use the computer system for basic departmental transactions.
  • Safely move components with lifting devices such as jib crane or fork-lift.

Administration:

  • Follow all company policies and health and safety procedures.
  • Always wear appropriate personal protective equipment when required.
  • Report any personal workplace injuries to direct supervisor immediately.
  • Report safety issues to direct supervisor as soon as possible.
  • Maintains an acceptable level of performance by following established policies and procedures and participate in continuous improvement efforts by supporting and implementing new ideas.
  • Sets a positive example by maintaining a respectful attitude, cooperating with co-workers, management, and internal and external customers.
  • Be a productive team member and help meet established departmental and Company goals.
  • Report to work for your regularly scheduled shifts on time and ready to work.
  • Effectively give and receive feedback and willingly ask questions and seek direction when needed.
  • Willingly accepts responsibility of sharing skills and knowledge with other employees.
  • Perform all other duties as may be assigned from time to time.

KNOWLEDGE & EXPERIENCE:

  • Demonstrates a general knowledge of programming using CAM software to create toolpaths for 2 axis lathe and 3 axis mill.
  • 2-5 years experience in CNC programming for 2 axis lathes and 3 axis mills or have a minimum of three to six years of experience in a similar programming role.
  • Knowledge of Mastercam will be an asset.
  • Knowledge of working in an ISO quality driven company is an asset.
  • Experience with manufacturing precision-machined components and procedural knowledge of related processes including heat treatment, plating, assembly activities.
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills with a focus on continuous improvement.
  • Strong communication and problem solving skills to work within a teambased environment.  #LI-RK1

The base salary range for this position in Ontario  at the start of employment is expected to be between $56,000 and $72,000 per year. However, the base salary offered is based on local job market factors and may vary further depending on factors specific to the selected job candidate, such as job-related knowledge, skills, experience, and other objective business considerations. Subject to these considerations, the total compensation package for this position may also include other elements, such as an annual cash incentive in addition to a full range of medical, retirement, and/or other benefits.
