Job summary
Position responsible for trouble-shooting, repairing, and maintaining urban transit buses and equipment Reports directly to Supervisor, Fleet and Infrastructure Unionized position
Job seniority: mid-to-senior level
Responsibilities
• Trouble-shoot, repair, and maintain urban transit buses and equipment • Write neat, accurate, and concise reports • Physically perform assigned duties • Knowledgeable of the New Brunswick Occupational Health and Safety Act • Diagnostic analysis of vehicles, engines, and equipment • Learn to input and manipulate data on the Fleet Maintenance System • Comply with Council and Corporate adopted policies • Contact co-workers, drivers, and employees of other City Departments • Make decisions relevant to work • Possibly oversee apprentices or students
Requirements
• High School graduate or equivalency • Certificate of Qualification in Truck & Transport (T&T) Mechanic • Minimum of five years' experience as a mechanic on diesel powered buses and related equipment/vehicles • Training and experience in troubleshooting, maintaining, and repairing highway or city buses • Experience rebuilding Diesel engines, preferably with Cummins • Experience working on differentials, drivelines, electrical, air conditioning, HVAC, etc. • Welding experience • English essential, French communication skills an asset • Physically able to perform duties assigned • Basic computer knowledge • Certified in Workplace Hazardous Materials Information Systems (WHMIS) within probationary period • 40-hour workweek, with occasional overtime required • Must be willing to undergo training/retraining on new or existing technologies
