About:

Our client, a global leading engineering firm is seeking a highly skilled Senior Tailings Engineer and or Tailings Manager (hybrid work model) , for multiyear consulting programs, within tailing and water projects. In this role, you will play a crucial part in sustaining and expanding our tailings-related business across the mining sector, overseeing strategic planning, leadership, and operational management, and providing technical oversight for mine tailings and closure projects.

Responsibilities:

Strategic Planning and Implementation:

Sustain and expand tailings-related business for new, existing, and legacy mine projects.
Identify, evaluate, and report on market trends, business conditions, and industry dynamics.
Support the development and execution of annual strategic and operational plans.
Innovate and enhance team capabilities and integrated approaches.
Develop strategic partnerships within the consulting community.
Lead mine tailings regional marketing and business development activities.

Leadership:

Sustain existing client relationships and develop new ones.
Build, grow, and develop a high-performing team in the Tailings, Water, and Environment Practice.
Identify resource gaps and attract/retain key staff.
Collaborate with organizational staff and technical leaders to deliver safe, profitable, and sustainable projects.

Operational Management:

Direct resource allocation for optimal project delivery and client management.
Demonstrate leadership in safety and ethical business practices.
Develop annual budget forecasts and optimize staff levels.
Provide routine operational updates on team and project performance.

Technical Oversight:

Guide the technical team in successful project delivery using industry best practices (e.g., CDA, GTS).
Serve as Engineer of Record (EOR) for tailings facilities.
Engage with key technical disciplines such as geology, hydrogeology, environment, and water management.
Directly lead/manage mine tailings and closure projects and oversee/support other Project Managers.
Ensure the application of quality system principles to project delivery.

Qualifications:

Degree in civil/geotechnical engineering with a focus on mine tailings, waste, and closure, or equivalent experience.
Eligibility or status through a provincial professional engineering organization.
Minimum 15 years of relevant industry experience, with a track record of successfully managing mine tailings and waste projects.

Key Skills and Experience:

Strong understanding of mine tailings, waste, and closure services and drivers.
Proven experience applying CDA and GTS standards to tailings projects.
Highly experienced in mine tailings and waste from design through closure.
Ability to create innovative client solutions aligned with business objectives.
Proven business development skills, including successful relationships with a client base.
Excellent communication and presentation skills.
Exceptional organization, coordination, and supervision skills.
