The Senior Architectural Technologist is responsible for drafting, production related tasks, and coordinating permit and architectural approval applications. The Senior Architectural Technologist is actively involved in maintaining the product line and an efficient production program. The Senior Architectural Technologist works to understand the Divisional and local area’s homebuilding market and overall industry and homebuilding trends, to expand, update and refine existing product line and processes. The Senior Architectural Technologist will also assist in mentoring and sharing knowledge with the Design Team.

Your Key Deliverables

  1. Set up individual job files
  2. Request plot plans and review for accuracy
  3. Set up CAD/REVIT job files
  4. Apply for Architectural approvals
  5. Review working drawings for peers
  6. Make job specific changes to working drawings as per customer requests
  7. Select exterior colors as required
  8. Liaise with sales department regarding change orders and requests for pricing
  9. Liaise with construction department and/or trade partners regarding questions or concerns with drawings
  10. Review job specific engineering, roof and floor layouts against completed working drawings
  11. Distribute construction documents to Sales, Estimating, Construction and Trade Partners
  12. Apply for building permits
  13. Review new stages for compliance with existing product and city by-laws
  14. Complete new stage setup
  15. Manage and draft design spec changes
  16. Provide maintenance to master set of drawings by entering updates from Estimating, Construction and Marketing
  17. Provide plan checks for new house models
  18. Manage shop drawings from engineered floor, roof truss and kitchen cabinet suppliers
  19. Liaise with construction department and/or sub trades regarding questions or concerns with drawings
  20. Liaise with Communities and/or their consultants in the acquisition of electronic information
  21. Liaise with IT regarding ongoing integration of automated workflow(s)
  22. Review and discuss onsite construction issues as they arise (framing, engineering, floor and roof layouts, and finishing electrical)
  23. Liaise with City Authority regarding code, bylaw or application concerns/questions
  24. Maintain positive relationships with industry officials, sub trades and suppliers
  25. Keep current on code, bylaw and industry changes by attending industry seminars, information sessions, industry courses, product demonstrations, engineering, etc.
  26. Mentor and develop the Designers
  27. Provide training as needed to others (new team members, Sales, Construction, Estimating) with respect to design department procedures and areas of responsibility
  28. Provide training to new Designers regarding production
  29. Create & maintain training documentation, as required

Must Haves

  1. Post-Secondary Diploma in Architectural Technologies, Civil Engineering or other related field
  2. 7+ years of industry experience
  3. Knowledge of a wide range of construction materials, methods, and techniques
  4. Strong knowledge of industry, building code, and government requirements
  5. Strong proficiency using MS Office, AutoCAD, and REVIT
  6. Advanced critical thinking and problem solving skills
  7. Effective communication skills; ability to communicate with customers, team members and external partners
  8. Ability to prioritize work and manage multiple competing priorities
  9. Detail oriented with strong organizational skills
  10. Ability to work independently and as part of a team
