The Nunavut Housing Corporation (NHC) is an agency of the Government of Nunavut which serves the housing needs of one of the fastest growing and youngest populations in Canada. NHC’s mandate is to create, co-ordinate, and administer housing programs in order to provide fair access to a range of affordable housing options to families and individuals in Nunavut. NHC has recently launched The Nunavut 3000 Strategy, (www.igluliuqatigiingniq.ca) which is a collaboration between the government and its partners to deliver 3,000 new units across the housing continuum by 2030. About the Opportunity Reporting to the Vice President and Chief Financial Officer, the Corporate Comptroller provides accountable financial leadership for the NHC, exercising sound judgment to ensure public resources are managed responsibly, transparently, and in support of Nunavut communities. The role oversees NHC’s financial management, reporting, and control framework, ensuring the integrity of financial information and effective oversight across headquarters, three District Offices, and 25 Local Housing Organizations (LHOs). The Corporate Comptroller leads annual budget development and ongoing financial monitoring, balancing legislative and accounting requirements with the operational realities of delivering housing programs in remote and diverse communities. The position ensures compliance with the Financial Administration Act and Public Sector Accounting Standards (PSAS), oversees all audit activities including the annual Office of the Auditor General audit and LHO audits, and provides clear, practical financial advice to senior leadership. Through people-centred leadership, the Corporate Comptroller strengthens financial systems by building capacity across teams responsible for corporate accounting, mortgage administration, and district financial operations, supporting sustainable and accountable housing delivery across Nunavut. Key responsibilities of the successful candidate will also include: Providing strategic financial leadership by overseeing budgeting, cash flow forecasting, variance analysis, and financial advisory services across all NHC divisions, districts, and 25 LHOs. Directing financial reporting and audit activities, including preparation of NHC financial statements, coordination of OAG interim and year-end audits, and supporting year-end processes and audits for all LHOs. Ensuring strong internal controls and compliance with the Financial Administration Act, PSAS, GAAP, GN financial policies, and internal procedures, while maintaining the integrity and accuracy of financial information systems. Managing and developing finance teams, including the Manager of Financial Services, Manager of Mortgages & Collections, District Comptrollers, and finance support staff, through coaching, training, and performance management. Overseeing CMHC program administration including Social Housing Agreement requirements, long-term debt and mortgage portfolios, funding claims, and related reporting and compliance obligations. About You The knowledge, skills, and abilities required for this job are usually obtained through completion of a recognized Canadian CPA designation with at minimum of five (5) years of managerial experience and ten (10) years of progressive experience in the field of accounting. This is a Position of Trust and a satisfactory Criminal Record Check is required. Acceptable combinations of education and experience may be considered for this position. The Official Languages of Nunavut are Inuktut, English and French. Applicants may submit their resume in any of the official languages of Nunavut. Fluency in more than one of Nunavut’s official languages would be considered an asset. Knowledge of Inuit communities, culture, land, Inuit Qaujimajatuqangit, Inuktut and experience working in a northern cross-cultural environment are also considered assets. About the Benefits The successful candidate will be rewarded with a competitive annual salary ranging from $132,468 to $189,240 per year, based on skills and experience.
