General Purpose Crew (GPC)

Job Overview

Carry out cargo handling duties, housekeeping, maintenance and other manual labor as instructed.

Experience with anchor handling operations considered an asset.

Qualifications/Requirements

  • High School Diploma or Equivalent
  • Bridge Watch Rating (BWR) Certificate of Competency
  • Proven track record in relevant offshore experience within the marine sector; recent offshore standby experience on a PSV or AHTS vessel is strongly preferred.
  • MED in Basic Safety Training
  • MED Training with respect to proficiency in survival Craft and Rescue Boats other than fast rescue boats.
  • Must pass Physical (Marine Medical with no restrictions, Drug Screen and Background Check).
  • Basic First Aid
  • Fast Rescue Craft (FRC) Certificate considered an asset
  • H2S Alive
  • WHMIS 2015
  • Valid Canadian Passport

Responsibilities

  • Be conversant and utilize appropriate company procedures for all lifting, crane and cargo operations
  • Make safety and protection of the environment the top priority at all times by adhering to the company's protective clothing policies and safe working practices and procedures, under the direction and supervises of the Deck Officers
  • Carry out lifting operation duties as directed
  • Perform fire and security rounds and maintain gangway watch while in port, as instructed by the Officer of the Watch.
  • Perform general maintenance and hygiene duties as directed by the Chief Officer, including paining, cleaning, planned maintenance work and tank inspections.
  • Perform Watchkeeping duties, as requested by the Officer of the Watch
  • Maintain all equipment and perform housekeeping as instructed
  • Ensure all tools and equipment are stowed appropriately at the end of each tour to avoid safety hazards for other operations
  • Assist in the maintenance of the crane, vessel machinery and equipment using correct tools and following safety procedures
  • Provide assistance with equipment maintenance as required.
  • Perform deckhand duties at port and offshore installations, including: Mooring, unmooring and line handling; Handling ship-asset lines; Loading stores; Cargo loading, discharging and back loading including cargo hose handling; Cargo lashing; Anchor Handling towing operations
  • Assist in the care, protection, maintenance of vessel deck equipment
  • Understand and comply with various safety processes within the Safety Management System
  • Posses the skills to perform job related tasks and apply safe practices while performing physical tasks
  • Ensure that approved vessel operating procedures are adhered to at all times. Report all unsafe activities, situations, and potential hazards to supervisor
  • Have a thorough understanding of precautions and procedures related to the Safety Management System
  • Have thorough understanding of pollution regulations and the company's objectives regarding environmental protection
  • Perform all emergency duties as designated.
