Join our team at VJH, where your expertise in managing complex patient cases is highly valued. As a core member of our department, you’ll oversee the general medical care of adults and collaborate on the management of surgical and psychiatric cases. You’ll find this role both stimulating and diverse in its case mix. Just to clarify, this position doesn’t involve coverage for Obstetrics & Gynecology, Pediatrics, or ICU/code blue patients.
Here, you’ll collaborate with various specialized departments, including Anesthesia, General Internal Medicine, General Surgery, Orthopedics, Psychiatry, Radiology, Urology, and Oncology. And when advanced treatment is required, you’ll play a pivotal role in coordinating tertiary referrals to Kelowna. Rest assured, our hospital boasts a devoted team of caring allied healthcare professionals who are always ready to support you on-site.
Caring for acutely ill individuals and their loved ones is at the heart of what you’ll do. That’s why your remarkable clinical and communication skills are essential. You’ll collaborate with fellow healthcare professionals, including discharge planning experts, community resources, and family physicians. Teamwork is key here, and we rely on electronic physician documentation to ensure clear plans, smooth patient handovers, and efficient rounding.
You’ll engage with UBC-Okanagan’s medical undergraduate and family residency programs. This opens up exciting doors for you to mentor and provide immersive clinical teaching to the next generation of healthcare practitioners. But that’s not all. We also encourage your involvement in projects focused on advancing Physician Quality Improvement (PQI). Your insights will fuel tangible change, creating an atmosphere of innovation and continuous progress.

- Doctorate in Medicine
- You will hold, or be eligible for, licensure with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of British Columbia (CPSBC).
- You will have, or be eligible for, your Certification in the College of Family Physicians of Canada (CCFP).
- If you’re a US-trained physician with ABMS certification in internal medicine, you may be eligible to practice under the USA certified class.
- To practice medicine here, you will have coverage with the Canadian Medical Protective Association.
Hours of work: Day shifts go from 0800 to approximately 1730. You will typically care for 18-20 patients.
On call requirements: Rest easy when you finish your day shift—our team keeps evening and overnight call separate. We work 1-2 evening/overnight shifts per month, starting at 1700 and ending at 0800. Payment for these shifts is 8 hours of APP rates, plus MOCAP thereafter.
As a full-time hospitalist, earn a guaranteed income of $336,168 under the APP clinical service contract, in addition to MOCAP level 2 for overnight call (from home) and premiums for evening and weekend shifts.
