About the Role

The Technical Analyst role is responsible for providing project support to our development team by performing hydrokinetic energy resource assessment and techno-economic analysis.In this role, you will work with cross-functional teams and travel to remote sites to do siteassessment and gather data needed to determine the feasibility of our projects. Other dutiesinclude microgrid techno-economic simulations and analysis, assisting with project proposaldevelopment, economic impact modeling, and project pro forma development. Provides support for grant management and writing reports.

Essential Skills and Responsibilities

  • Conducts analysis of the hydrokinetic potential of river and coastal environments of interest and arrays of ORPC turbines based on available data.
  • Participates in oceanographic data collection campaigns, including acoustic Doppler current profiler (ADCP) measurements in collaboration with Field Services team and Development team during planning, execution, and data post-processing.
  • Uses ADCP post-processing and analysis tools to document results in technical reports and papers.
  • Communicates resource characterization results to all stakeholders, including clients and engineering and development team staff. Advises on additional project development and operational needs.
  • Use energy systems analysis models and tools (HOMER, SG2B, ORPC in-house) to assess, analyze, and optimize microgrid design solutions for desired renewable energy penetration and technologies mix for ORPC devices projects.
  • Determine the inputs (resources characteristics, system power curves, etc.) and outputs of the techno-economic model (economic balance, diesel savings, subsidies, etc.)
  • Produces multi physical/statistical simulations to help predict technical and economic viability of RivGen based microgrids.
  • Support the go-to-market strategy and marketing presentations:
    • Analyze and catalogue hydrokinetic and hydraulic resource data to screen sites for ORPC projects and inform go-to-market strategy.
    • Assist with market opportunities research and identification of potential new markets.
    • Perform data analysis to support grant compliance.
    • Perform various technical studies and research to support marketing presentations.

Qualifications

  • Experience with hydrodynamic modeling software such as HEC-RAS, Delft-3D, or Telemac preferred
  • Familiarity with International Electrotechnical Commission Marine Renewable Energy standards preferred
  • Experience with GIS preferred
  • Programming skills in VBA (Visual Basic) and Python required
  • Proficient with measuring instrument related software (ADCP related software)
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skill
  • Excellent interpersonal and customer service skills
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite or related software
  • Excellent organizational and attention to detail
  • Proficient in English and French helpful

Education/Experience

  • Master or Engineering degree in Geography, Hydrology, Oceanography, Renewable Energy or related field.
  • Ability to work in a collaborative, team-oriented environment.
  • Willing to train for skills as needed.
