Job Responsibilities

(Internal Role: Engineering III)

• Engage in the practice of professional engineering which: Requires the application of engineering principles and is an act of planning, designing, composing, evaluating, advising, reporting, directing or supervising, or managing any of these acts involves the safeguarding of life, health, property, economic interests, the public welfare or the environment 
• Ensure compliance with regulations and guidelines for the practice of professional engineering in the Province of licensure including but not limited to professional responsibility, Engineer’s duty to report, use of the Professional Engineer’s seal, due diligence, report writing, giving opinions, communications, confidential information, data gathering, and site investigations 
• Assist the Project Manager in delivering quality projects safely on time, and on budget, from inception through scope development, design, procurement, construction, handover, and closeout
• Coordinate with multiple stakeholders; stakeholder operations, engineering, and systems departments to support and direct planning and design teams (consultant or in-house) through the audit, assessment and analysis to planning, concept design, costing, risk management of project and program deliverables, including appropriate constraints and milestones to facilitate Operations, customer service, and third party requirements
• Monitor technical performance and ensure all engineering milestones are met
• Utilize the knowledge of design standards and detail operations for subway yard
• Apply the knowledge of the system integration process and prepare project requirement
• Coordinate work by third parties and value engineering activities
• Obtain all the required sign-offs and approvals both internally and from external agencies
• Provide project management support including cost, schedule, and technical aspects, and the coordination of all scope and project changes
• Prepare various status reports for the Project Manager, and perform related administrative duties as assigned to meet project requirements and commitments
• Responsible for treating passengers and/or employees with respect and dignity and ensuring the needs of passengers or employees with disabilities are accommodated and/or addressed (within your area of responsibility)
• Forecast and execute appropriate engineering means and methods to complete the assigned tasks and duties on medium-sized projects or elements on larger projects or programs from inception through to completion 
• Review and ensure adherence to the scope, schedule, and budget
• Establish and interpret progress reports, proposals, and presentations, to project and client team 
• Consult with the assigned Engineering IV or higher to seek guidance and input during the key phases of a project 
• Complete any tasks assigned by Engineering IV or higher in an efficient and timely manner

Qualifications Required

Experience: 

Minimum of 8 years of experience or knowledge of managing the yard facilities

Education:

• Bachelor’s degree in Industrial or Mechanical Engineering

Licenses OR Certifications:

• Holding recognized PEng. licensure in the province of practice
• PMP certification is an asset

Skills and Competencies: 

• Experience of designs of subway yard layout and car house and overhaul shop
• Familiar with the trending full automation operation for subway yard
• Knowledge of system integration process and preparing project requirement
• Understanding of Project management principles and practices, including conceptual planning and all phases of design
• Competent in Project management information systems and reporting as it relates to control of scope, scheduling and cost
• Adept in construction techniques and practices, contract administration, and knowledge of the Construction Lien Act, as related to subway and transit work
• Sound knowledge of government regulations, legislation and standards, safety regulations and procedures applicable to the project
• Demonstrated ability to manage and work with multi-disciplined teams, deal with complex issues, and maintain effective working relationships
• Proven expertise in early project planning processes including project planning documentation
• Advanced skills in Microsoft Office 
• Proficient in other applicable engineering-related software
• Ability to arrange priorities and escalate competing risks to meet deadlines with minimum input from leadership
• Keen eye for detail and adept problem-solving abilities
• Must have demonstrated experience relaying and receiving information (written and verbal)
• Expert ability to work collaboratively and independently in a structured, disciplined, technology-driven environment
• Effectively lead and motivate, influence and obtain cooperation from a diverse group of internal and external project stakeholders to achieve the goals and objectives of the project
• Ability to work creatively and analytically in a problem-solving environment by ensuring effective teamwork, promotion of innovation, and overall excellence 
• Demonstrated functional acumen to support how solutions will address client goals while maintaining alignment with industry best practices
