Role Description

Reporting to the Manager, Fundraising Events, the Specialist, Fundraising Events will support with the coordination, planning and execution of ALS Canada’s Signature Events Pull to End ALS and Revolution Ride in conjunction with supporting the events portfolio, which includes the Walk to End ALS, third-party events, and Buck-A-Puck for ALS. To support the revenue goals of the Signature Events portfolio, the Specialist will focus on the growth of Pull to End ALS and Revolution Ride through recruitment, retention, and sponsorship. This role will also support the stewardship of participants, Team Captains, donors, and sponsors.

What You Will Do:

Revenue/Recruitment: 30%

  • Motivate and engage participants in efforts to meet or exceed overall event revenue targets for Pull to End ALS and Revolution Ride.
  • Recruit new teams and individuals for Pull to End ALS and Revolution Ride by conducting research and outreach to prospects that may be a good fit.
  • Increase donations raised per participant and teams by contributing recommendations for the donor stewardship strategy and participant/team journey.
  • Write and develop engaging and inspiring content for event email series; assist in deployment of campaign emails such as: recruitment, retention, and fundraising efforts.
  • Build and lead Team Captain kickoffs and participant engagement activities.
  • Support event campaigns through metrics analysis, reporting on KPIs revenue tracking; support contingency planning activities, when required; contribute to post-event analyses research and presentations.
  • Facilitate personalized recruitment and fundraising campaigns as needed.

Sponsorship: 30%

  • Research, solicit and secure event cash sponsorships and in-kind sponsorship for Pull to End ALS and Revolution Ride, and support the sponsorship efforts of Walk to End ALS and Buck-A-Puck for ALS.
  • Create and manage contracts for event sponsors and work with other departments to ensure all contract deliverables are fulfilled.
  • Secure and deepen relationships with current and prospective event sponsors.
  • Develop sponsorship decks, contracts, and stewardship impact reports to sponsors as required.
  • Identify opportunities to expand fundraising outside of current supporter network
  • Collaborate with the Fund Development team to approach prospects with multi-year and cross-department sponsorship opportunities that integrate Signature Events.

Logistics: 15%

  • Incorporate the ALS Canada vision, mission and values in the planning and execution of Pull to End ALS and Revolution Ride.
  • Source, order, and distribute swag and fundraising incentives for Signature Events as required.
  • Source in-kind sponsorship opportunities to reduce costs for events.
  • Coordinate signage development, supply packing leading up to and after events: sorting and dividing supplies, lifting, loading products and mailing items to individuals as required.
  • When needed, act as the liaison between the Marketing, Strategic Communications and Knowledge Exchange and Fund Development teams for Pull to End ALS and Revolution Ride.
  • Provide insurance certificates and source necessary permits as required, collection of all event weekend details for participant communications.
  • Oversee safe and secure money handling process and procedures for Signature Events.
  • Process all event-related invoicing.

Customer Service and Stewardship: 25%

  • Support the Revolution Ride staff/volunteer committee and assist with recruitment for event days volunteers.
  • As part of event stewardship, build and maintain relationships with fundraisers across the Pull to End ALS and Revolution Ride portfolios and team captains on a personal level and communicate with them regularly through personal contact.
  • Develop surveys and analyze survey responses to measure participant satisfaction to inform future strategic planning.
  • Support event participants and volunteers, ensuring a smooth event experience.


What We Are Looking For:

  • University degree or college diploma and minimum 3-4 years of progressive fundraising experience, including experience working on peer-to-peer fundraising events, managing volunteer activities, and achieving revenue targets.
  • Driver’s license required.
  • Proven background in leading fundraising event campaigns with revenue targets of $200k+.
  • Proven expertise in developing strategy and managing a fundraising portfolio, building campaign metrics, user journey, communications, and stewardship plans.
  • Proven experience securing corporate sponsorships.
  • Strong computer skills with experience in Microsoft Office and an aptitude for database systems.
  • Strong presentation and public speaking skills.
  • A collaborative approach to working on a team.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced and purposeful environment.
  • Ability to multi-task and manage several project aspects with competing deadlines.
  • Exceptional written and verbal communications skills.
  • Excellent organizational, planning, analytical and administrative skills.
  • Working knowledge of Raiser’s Edge platform.
  • Extended hours and weekend work will be required during event season and busy times.
  • This position involves some moderate lifting, shipping, and handling.
  • Experience in not for profit, health charity or working with individuals with a terminal illness an asset
  • Some travel within the province may be required.
