Superintendent of Education Renfrew County District School Board Description: The Renfrew County District School Board is seeking a Superintendent of Education. This is a full-time position.

The Renfrew County District School Board (RCDSB) aims to inspire all students to reach their full potential and empower all staff to serve school communities to the best of their abilities, towards the achievement of success for all members of the educational community. For the position of Superintendent of Education, commencing August 12, 2024 , the district is seeking a dynamic and energetic educational leader who: inspires community engagement and partnerships; empowers equity and well-being; achieves excellence in teaching and learning; and, ensures the stewardship of resources, as well as demonstrates a commitment to the measurement of progress over time.

The District

The RCDSB is located in the heart of the Ottawa Valley in the eastern region of Ontario. The district is bound by the Ottawa River on the east, Algonquin Park on the west, with the southern-most schools located in Arnprior and the northern-most school in Deep River. The district is situated on traditional, unceded, unsurrendered territory of the Algonquin people. The RCDSB has approximately 9,500 students in seven secondary schools and 21 elementary schools across the county. In addition, the district has four adult and continuing education sites in Arnprior, Renfrew, Pembroke and Petawawa. The RCDSB’s education office is located in Pembroke, Ontario.

Qualifications Expectations

The successful candidate will have a breadth and depth of knowledge, skills and experiences as a school and/or system leader, including a thorough understanding of the legislation and regulations of the Education Act. In addition to being a person of integrity and vision, excellent interpersonal, collaboration, communication, critical thinking and problem solving skills are expected.

The Role

The successful candidate will report to the Director of Education. As part of the Director’s Executive Council, Superintendents of Education are assigned roles and responsibilities for supervising and supporting elementary and secondary schools, as well as central portfolios or departments. The successful candidate is recognized for their expertise in instructional leadership, operational management, and organizational citizenship, including demonstrable examples of initiatives and/or projects led successfully. Additionally, the successful candidate must have an excellent performance appraisal within the last five years.

Qualifications

The successful candidate will have a minimum of five years of experience as an administrator in schools and/or central departments, and provide qualifications as a supervisory officer (or currently registered in SOQP and attainment of qualifications as part of conditions of employment). Experience at both school and system levels is considered an asset, as is fluency in French.

Additional Information The invitation for applications is open to internal and external candidates. Application packages must include: cover letter, curriculum vitae, most recent performance appraisal, two-page perspective on the role of Superintendent of Education (further details below), proof of qualifications as a supervisory officer (or enrolment in SOQP), proof of membership in good standing with Ontario College of Teachers, and, three references with authorization for contact under the Municipal Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act.

Please provide a two-page perspective on the role of the Superintendent of Education within the Renfrew County District School Board, focusing on how you would contribute to and advance our three strategic priorities: inspiring community engagement and partnerships, empowering equity and well-being, and achieving excellence in teaching and learning. Provide specific examples from your experience and insights on how you would lead to achieve these goals, addressing the unique context and needs of our Board.
