Children in care face a range of mental and physical health challenges and they require professionals who have understanding of the unique and diverse challenges that they face. They have some of the poorest health outcomes of all children in the country. This role would be primarily to undertake initial health assessments for children in care. We are looking for staff to support this service and to join our innovative Cambridgeshire Community Paediatric Team. We are a very supportive and committed team, actively involved in service improvement, teaching and research. Staff are well supported and there are opportunities to develop expertise and contribute to wider aspects of our community paediatric service across Cambridgeshire depending on expertise. Job responsibilities Job Purpose To work within the Community Paediatric Team to understand and assess the health needs of children and young people who are Looked After including those with a plan for adoption. To contribute to the health assessments of Looked After Children (LAC). Contribute to the developmental assessment of young children within the Cambridgeshire service depending on service needs. This a job would suit either a paediatrician, general practitioner or medical professional who could evidence an interest and expertise in children in care assessments and care. We would consider candidates who were looking for more flexible working patterns if this could be accommodated within the service. CCS are compliant with the SAS Charter and we support the development of skills to enable SAS doctors to develop their careers to apply for Specialist positions in the future. Main Duties and Responsibilities Undertake statutory looked after children health assessments including those with complex healthcare needs. Formulate a comprehensive, individual healthcare plan. Identify and lead on relevant audits of service provision, including multiagency audits in conjunction with others. Support our wider community paediatric work across Cambridgeshire, depending on service needs and applicants expertise. Communication Good communication skills to allow effective work within a team of clinical and non-clinical staff in both health, education and social care professionals in order to fulfil the role as described. Human Resources Maintaining own professional development and requirement to take part in appraisal and KSF process. Clinical and Practice Governance Observe and maintain strict confidentiality with regards to any patient/family/staff/records and information in line with the requirements of the Data Protection Act. Any data that is taken/shared as part of a phone call or transported, faxed or transferred electronically must be undertaken with regard to the Trust Information Governance and Information Security policies. The post holder must adhere to the Trust risk assessment and risk management processes. The post holder must adhere to infection control policies and procedures. It is a condition of your employment that you are currently registered with GMC and it is your responsibility to maintain your professional registration. Undertake mandatory training and any other training relevant to the role as required by Cambridgeshire Community Services NHS Trust. The post holder must participate in clinical and other audits as required. The post holder is required to participate in relevant emergency preparedness process for their team. General Interview will be in person only and will involve a competency assessment task to be completed on the day of the interview. Person Specification Qualifications Full registration with the GMC Higher medical qualification appropriate to the role Level 3 safeguarding experience Experience Experience of the specific health and developmental needs of children and young people who are vulnerable and part of the care system. Experience of working with professionals from other agencies to understand and meet these needs. Knowledge Communicate effectively with children and young people including those with complex needs. Able to review, summarise and interpret information from a range of sources. Able to convey complex information in an accessible manner to other professionals and adults involved in the care of looked after/children undergoing adoption. Able to adapt and be sensitive and flexible to meet the particular needs of the child and in particular adolescents. Able to effectively engage with birth parents, involving them as appropriate in health assessments alongside foster carers. Able to advise other agencies about the health management of looked after children.
