Story Behind the Need:

• Business Group: GOCT Solution Architecture & Engineering. Contributes to the overall success of GOCT Solution Architecture & Engineering in Canada ensuring specific individual goals, plans, initiatives are executed / delivered in support of the team’s business strategies and objectives. Ensures all activities conducted are in compliance with governing regulations, internal policies and procedures.
• Project: The team is seeking as Database Analyst/Programmer to support the Bank’s software upgrade as part of compliance:
o Supports the SAS upgrade projects within GOCT as an expert with ability to provide leadership.
o Supports enhancements to SAS and Mainframe based analytical reporting.
o Lead SAS based application’s rationalization.
o Supports efforts to modernize MIS solution and leverage Microsoft / Google cloud platforms for data persistence and Reporting.

Typical Day in Role:

• Champions a customer focused culture to deepen client relationships and leverage broader Bank relationships, systems and knowledge.
• Builds and maintains a strong working relationship with peers across the business lines including key stakeholders across Commercial Banking, Retail Lending, Day-To-Day banking, Small Business banking divisions in Canadian Banking.
• Possess technical leadership skills and act as single point of contact for all technical queries on SAS upgrade in a mainframe environment.
• Proven track record as hands-on consultant in leading technical design, development, mentoring team members and advising management on large scale SAS upgrade on mainframe.
• Must have worked across multiple technologies including mainframe as well as relational database platforms like SQL Server or Oracle with exposure to infrastructure deployed on-premise and the cloud.
• Must have experience in SAS based application rationalization.
• Effectively implements SDLC across the specification, design, build, test, and deployment phases of development. Enables Agile culture and facilitates Scrum and Kanban.
• Understands how the Bank’s risk appetite and risk culture should be considered in day-to-day activities and decisions.
• Creates an environment in which their team pursues effective and efficient operations of their respective areas in accordance with client’s Values, its Code of Conduct, and the Global Sales Principles, while ensuring the adequacy, adherence to and effectiveness of day-to-day business controls to meet the obligations with respect to operational, compliance, ML/ATF/sanctions and conduct risk.
• Builds a high-performance environment and implements a people strategy that attracts, retains, develops, and motivates their team by fostering an inclusive work environment and using a coaching mindset and behaviours; communicating vison/values/business strategy; and managing succession and development planning for the team.

Candidate Requirements/Must-Have skills:

• 8-10+ years of experience developing and managing reporting solutions.
• 7+ years of hands-on experience in building data pipelines using tools like Mainframe/TSO (JCL/ PROC, ISPF), Mainframe SAS with exposure to SQL based analysis on RDBMS like SQL Server/Sybase/DB2/Oracle.
• 5+ years of technical leadership with ability to mentor team members from diverse technical backgrounds.
• Expert on large-scale SAS code upgrades on Mainframe.
• Previous exposure to Data Migration from Mainframe to other platforms (RDBMS).

Nice-To-Have Skills:

• Experience in Atlassian Jira/Confluence, GIT, TFS/Azure DevOps is an asset.
• Knowledge of Canadian Banking source systems including Commercial Banking, Retail Lending, Day-To-Day banking, Small Business banking is an asset.

Soft Skills:

• Strong communications skills to facilitate meetings with various stakeholders, communicate ambiguous topics in a structured manner and deliver presentations/demos.
• Strong decision making, forward thinking and creative problem-solving skills to anticipate and respond quickly to technological/market influences.
• Ability to work as part of a team, as well as work independently or with minimal direction.

Best vs. Average Candidate:

• Strong technical expertise on Mainframe and SAS.
• Previous exposure to Data Migration from Mainframe to other platforms.
• Candidate who meets all the must have skill and a minimum of one nice to have skill.
• Team player and good collaboration skills.

Education:

• Post-secondary degree in IT/Computer Science/Business Administration and relevant experience.

Candidate Review & Selection:

• One round technical interview – Panel with 3 to 4 team members (45 minutes):
o Assess technical skills on Mainframe and SAS – Panel will share their screen and ask 3 to 5 questions from basic to advanced.
• Potential second round interview
