Be our next Senior Geotechnical Engineer

Your work environment at EXP
In this role, you will be a part of the Geotechnical team, based in the Calgary, AB office. Reporting to the Geotechnical Discipline Manager, the successful applicant will be joining a well-established and diverse engineering group developing and executing diverse and challenging projects across Western Canada.

Working closely with geotechnical engineers and project managers with diverse areas of expertise, the successful candidate will:

  1. Support pursuit leads and proposal developments.
  2. Execute projects, perform geotechnical site investigations, and conduct engineering analysis.
  3. Prepare geotechnical engineering reports and provide project oversight from the design to construction phases of projects.
  4. Have significant project management experience, providing financial leadership on projects and ensuring project deliverables are completed timely for the clients.
  5. Work mainly on geotechnical projects in and around Calgary and other areas of Alberta, with some regional travel required.
What a day at EXP has in store for you
  1. Problem-solving client’s geotechnical concerns.
  2. Leads and coordinates all efforts to execute assigned projects.
  3. Accountability for project financial results and quality of products, including reporting and construction reviews.
  4. Prepare invoicing, responsible for collections and updating backlog reports.
  5. Direct, coach, and assign work to junior/intermediate staff assigned to projects; coordinate resource planning with the Geotechnical Discipline Manager.
  6. Collaborate with team management for project, financial, and people coordination.
  7. Facilitate client meetings and participate in conceptual and problem-solving discussions.
  8. Participate in regular Business Development activities.
  9. Lead proposal writing efforts, including coordinating and coaching others.
  10. Coach others in design and report writing or oversee junior engineers preparing drafts.
What your experience looks like
  1. Bachelor’s degree in civil or geological/geotechnical engineering.
  2. Master’s degree in geotechnical engineering is an asset.
  3. Professional license with APEGA.
  4. Must have a minimum of 7 years of relevant Geotechnical engineering experience.
  5. Minimum 3 years of project management experience.
  6. Experience related to settlement estimations, slope stability analysis, shallow and deep foundation designs, pile designs, retaining wall designs, liquefaction assessments, and drainage designs.
  7. Some experience with seismic designs and analysis will be an asset.
  8. The ability to coordinate, mentor, and assign work to junior staff.
  9. Ability to interface and communicate with both our internal and external clients.
  10. Excellent organizing, interpersonal written and verbal communication skills.
  11. Strong computer skills using word processing, spreadsheet, and graphics applications such as MS Word, Excel, and AutoCAD.
  12. Strong communication skills, both written and verbal.
  13. Experience with project development and execution.
  14. Ability to meet deadlines, well organized, and able to work under pressure.
  15. Must possess a valid driver’s license and a reliable vehicle to travel to job sites.
