The Heavy-Duty Mechanic supports the shop and field operations by contributing to the key deliverables and day-to-day construction activities. This position is responsible for performing duties and tasks related to the preventative and corrective maintenance of specialized construction equipment and other related construction machinery and materials in a safe manner.

Skills/Specialties:

  • Repairs, troubleshoots, adjusts, overhauls and maintains heavy-duty construction equipment.
  • Inspects bulldozers, graders and other heavy construction equipment to ensure proper performance.
  • Detects faults and uses testing equipment to diagnose malfunctions, determining the extent of repair.
  • Tests machinery for proper functioning and conducts other routine maintenance work.
  • Services attachments and working tools (blades, ploughs, winches, etc.)

General Responsibilities:

  • Services machines in a manner that is safe, legal, efficient, and respectful of company and public property.
  • Manages workload daily, performing work safely and taking necessary precautions to prevent injury.
  • Performs repairs and inspections independently, seeking help when required.
  • Collaborates with operators, foremen, superintendents, and other site personnel to ensure proper maintenance and functioning of equipment.
  • Communicates any issues to the supervisor as soon as they are identified.
  • Executes job accountabilities under the leadership of the Shop Manager.

Qualifications & Experience

  • Certificates/Licenses:
    Alberta Journeyman Heavy Duty Mechanic License.
  • Experience with construction, subgrade and paving are an asset.
  • Demonstrated expert abilities in all aspects of equipment repair and maintenance.
  • Prepared to work on construction sites and/or in company maintenance facilities.
  • Willingness to work flexible hours/variable shifts in dynamic environments.
  • Ready to work with grease, oil, dirt, etc. while exposed to fumes and noise.
  • Physically able to perform duties (i.E. lift up to 50-100 lbs.)
