The Executive Director aligns with the strategic vision of the Board, supporting and implementing the decisions and directions of the Status of Women Council of the NWT through staffing, policies, and programs. In addition, this position is responsible for the effective and efficient operations of the Status of Women Council of the NWT.

Responsibilities:
Board Relations
- Collaborate with the Board of Directors to develop and implement the strategic plan.
- Provide regular updates and reports to the Board on organizational performance, financial status, and program outcomes.
Executive Direction
- Provide overall leadership and direction for the Council, ensuring the implementation of the strategic plan and organizational goals.
- Oversee the day-to-day operations, including program management, financial oversight, and staff supervision.
- Advise the Council of administrative, personnel, financial, legal and procedural issues relating to operations.
- Develop and implement operating policies and procedures.
- Ensure procedures are conducted per the NWT Status of Women Council ACT, NWT Financial Administration ACT, Council By-laws, negotiated agreements with the GNWT and other relevant Legislation.
- Organize staff and ensure staff work towards the goals and objectives of the Council.
- Manage the HR function within the Council office including hiring, terminating, recruiting, supervising, evaluating, and disciplining.
- Ensure the professional development of staff.
- Prepare annual report.
Advocacy and Public Relations
- Act as the primary spokesperson for the organization, representing the Council in public forums, media engagements, and with GNWT divisions, in compliance with the Council’s Communications Strategy and Communication Responsibility Chart.
- Conduct public speaking engagements related to women’s issues and the work of the Council.
- Advocate for policies and initiatives that support the economic, social, and political equality of women in the NWT.
- Identify potential partners within government and non-governmental sectors and build and maintain strong relationships with community partners, stakeholders, and funding bodies.
Program Development and Implementation:
- Act as Senior Project Manager on all Council Projects.
- Oversee the development and execution of innovative programs and services that address the needs of women in the NWT (including reports, workplan…).
- Monitor and evaluate program effectiveness, ensuring alignment with the organization’s mission and strategic priorities.
- Secure funding and resources to support program initiatives through grants and partnerships.
- Develop and manage the organization’s budget, ensuring financial sustainability and accountability.
- Together with the bookkeeper, ensure proper accounting and bookkeeping policies and procedures for core budgets, contracts and contribution agreements.
- Oversee financial reporting, audits, and compliance with funding requirements.
- Identify and pursue opportunities for revenue diversification and financial growth.
- Prepare tenders when needed, assess responses and supervise contracts on behalf of the Council.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s Degree in a relevant field (e.g., social sciences, public administration, gender studies) required, Master’s Degree in a relevant field (e.g., social sciences, public administration, gender studies) preferred.
- Minimum of five years’ experience in a senior leadership role (a minimum of a Director level) in a non-profit organization, preferably in the fields of gender equality, social justice, or community development.
- Thinks outside the box. Challenges status quo and traditional “the way things have always been done” thinking.
- Applies original thinking in approach to job, and other processes, methods, systems, products or services.
- Engages in responsible dialogue and brainstorming to develop new ideas and unique solutions to problems.
- Continuously seeks ways to improve all aspects of the Council.
- Equivalent combinations of education and experience will be considered.
