JOB SUMMARY:

Reporting to the Regional Gyneco-Oncology Division Head and the Medical Director for the area, the gyneco-oncologist focuses on the study and treatment of gynecological cancer. The gyneco-oncologist practises in various clinical contexts to provide a wide range of medical care to patients having received a confirmed or suspected gynecological cancer diagnosis. The gyneco-oncologist provides individualized care and support to adult patients and their loved ones throughout their disease trajectory. The gynecological cancer continuum includes health promotion, prevention measures, screening, initial assessment and diagnosis of gynecological cancer, medical and surgical treatments, survival and follow-up as well as supportive, palliative and end-of-life care. The gyneco-oncologist works on interdisciplinary teams to develop an evidence-based multimodal therapeutic approach. The gyneco-oncologist also works with other health professionals to deliver diversified and comprehensive care to gynecological cancer patients and their loved ones.

To ensure adequate service coverage, the Gyneco-oncologist participates in an on-call rotation during statutory holidays, weekends, and evenings in which surgical inpatient services are provided.

The gyneco-oncologist is also required to take part in research activities in their field of practice.

The gyneco-oncologist takes an active part in teaching activities in their department, in close collaboration with the Centre de formation médicale du Nouveau‑Brunswick.

REQUIREMENTS:

• Degree from a recognized medical school and residency granting a licence in Gyneco-Oncology.

A recognized medical school is a school that meets the following criteria:

• Accredited by the Committee on Accreditation of Canadian Medical Schools (CACMS) or the Liaison Committee on Medical Education (LCME) (in the United States);
• Recognized certification in obstetrics and gynecology from the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada;
• Recognized certification in gyneco-oncology from the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada;
• Licensure with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of New Brunswick;
• Active membership in the Canadian Medical Protective Association or equivalent liability insurance association;
• Membership with the New Brunswick Medical Society;
• Registration with New Brunswick Medicare;
• One to three years’ experience will be considered an asset;
• Any other combination of training and experience deemed relevant and equivalent could be considered;
