Schedule:Days, evenings, weekends, full flexibility is required - 40hrs/week
Wage: $18.51/hr
Location: Trent University, Peterborough ON
Important Information: Food Safety Training Certificate required. Must have proven knife skills and be flexible with scheduling. Extensive culinary/grill background is essential. Brand knowledge (Subway, Tim Hortons, Pizza Pizza etc.) an asset.

Job Summary

Prepares and cooks food according to standardized recipes; prepares, serves, and clears grill, flat top, deep fryer, steam table line; operates food service equipment; cleans and sanitizes work area and equipment, while maintaining kitchen work areas and equipment. Produce Catering orders by following specific recipes in a timely manner. Responsible for providing service in our retail and franchise operations and handling cash in accordance with Compass Group Canada established protocols.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Maintain a clean and neat appearance, complies with Annual Uniform Policy.
  • Undergo job specific and company safety training.
  • Maintains an awareness of Chartwells contractual obligations for the project relating to the department.
  • Oversees stocking of all food serving areas, with a focus on quality, appearance, adequate stocking levels, and minimizing leftovers and product waste.
  • Prepares and cooks food according to standardized recipes, ensuring food is cooked at the proper temperature and at the proper length of time.
  • Operates food services equipment in a safe manner and according to established policies and procedures including principles of sanitation.
  • Prepares, serves, and clears resident steam table/tray line.
  • Open and close customer areas at the specific times advertised.
  • Maintains established food rotations in storage to minimize spoilage and waste.
  • Cleans and sanitizes work area and equipment.
  • Communicates with supervisor and other staff members to resolve problems and/or concerns.
  • Assists in serving meals, remaining present during scheduled meal periods to receive customer comments and feedback.
  • Produce and prep items for Catering orders, follow recipes for specific items, display on Catering trays appropriately, and ensures all required items for catering are gathered and set up to customer satisfaction.
  • Catering clean up at required time, wash dishes from those clean ups, break down and put away items from the catering.
  • Set up and stock the servery with all required products (pastries, beverages etc.) and restock as needed throughout the shift.
  • Brew coffee as required and maintain coffee station stock and cleanliness.
  • Operate cash register and debit/credit terminals in accordance with established cashier rules (must sign and adhere to annual cashier agreement).
  • Confirm deposit paperwork is prepared accurately and timely in accordance with operations manual, client, and corporate requests.
  • Ensure promotional material and signage is in place and be knowledgeable about promotional material.
  • Serve customers quickly and courteously using proper service techniques, upselling is part of the responsibility.
  • Prepare salads and make sandwiches according to specifications in quantities sufficient for the day’s sales.
  • May be required to do short order cooking.
  • Assist anywhere else in the kitchen during production as needed, including kitchen clean up: wash pots, pans, trays, china dishes and sanitization of work area.
  • Follow opening, closing and cleaning checklists.

  • Previous food services experience is an asset.
  • Able to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Good command of English language, both verbal and written and ability to follow written and verbal instructions.
