Job Description:

Reporting to the Manager, OT Operations, the OT Application Specialist will be responsible for providing hands-on technical support, general expertise, and end-user guidance related to various OT applications. This position will be a key resource for performing upgrades, troubleshooting, vulnerability mitigation, and general administration of all applications in the OT environment. This position will require strong technical and organizational skills to manage the high volume of applications, and excellent written and verbal communication skills to collaborate with various stakeholders.

Responsibilities:

  • Communicate effectively and establish strong working relationships with internal business partners and external vendors.
  • Create standards documentation and procedures for deploying, operating, and upgrading applications.
  • Collaborate with other technical disciplines in solving both real-time and longer-term challenges.
  • Provide high level expertise and advanced technical support to resolve incidents.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve issues, including legacy applications and/or applications on legacy Operating Systems.
  • Perform application upgrades and patches: including Request For Change (RFC) creation and/or
  • follow up tasks for any updates/upgrades to applications (Including updating installation and other documents where applicable) while following all relevant compliance (CIP) requirements and documentation.
  • Deploy new applications to in scope machines, both physical and virtual.
  • Assess compatibility issues and provide recommendations to address risk and/or complete mitigation strategies.
  • Track application inventory, including procuring and deploying licenses.
  • Provide general technical support including patch assessment and lifecycle support to software owners.
  • Assess and deploy secure application configuration principles where applicable.
  • Administer and manage licensing and upgrades for various security and compliance applications.
  • Build and upgrade servers (physical and virtual) as required.
  • Complete evaluations of enhancement requests and engage with all impacted stakeholders.
  • Develop, implement, and improve application methodologies, standards, and processes.
  • Work with operational stakeholders to develop strong security and compliance capabilities within assigned applications suite.
  • Assess new and existing applications to identify security weaknesses and creating improvement plans where required.
  • Other Operational/Application related duties and responsibilities as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in a technical discipline (e.g. Computer Science) or relevant diploma/certifications with equivalent experience.
  • Minimum 5 years of experience, 3 of which must be direct, hands-on experience in multiple aspects of enterprise application support, preferably in a team lead or Tier 3 support role.
  • Must have proven ability/experience in the above noted responsibilities.
  • In depth knowledge of IS security principles and best practices.
  • Proven self-directed ability to organize workload and adjust priorities using sound judgment.
  • Proficient in developing and presenting technical details to management.
  • Hands-on experience in problem management and issue resolution under pressure.
  • Experience with ITIL practices in particular Change Management, Incident Management and Problem Management.
  • Excellent communication, documentation, and time management skills.
  • Experience working in a team-oriented, collaborative environment.
  • Familiarity with Network Management Software Suites (such as Nokia 5620SAM / NSP, SolarWinds, etc.) is an asset.
  • Experience with designing, documenting, and implementing processes and procedures with a focus on sustainability and continuous improvement.
  • Experience with Industrial Control Systems and/or Electric utilities is an asset.
  • Experience with ARS CIP Compliance and other compliance programs is an asset.
  • Proficient in the following systems, tools, and applications: Active Directory, Microsoft Server 2012+, Red Hat Enterprise Linux, Windows defender/Endpoint protection software, Virtualization technologies including VMware product lines (including VxRail; Dell/EMC storage and storage virtualization, Vmware vSphere, & vSAN), Patch Management Tools (such as KACE, SCCM, or Patch Manager), Password Manager Pro, Eaton IMS, and CyberArk or similar password vault applications, Tripwire Log Center, Enterprise, and IP360 or other enterprise inventory, logging, and vulnerability management suites, Anti-Malware/Threat response software such as Palo Alto XDR/Traps, Carbon Black EDR, or similar, Various common OT applications used by electric utilities, such as those associated with Siemens, SEL, GE, and ABB products.
  • Effective communication (written and verbal) and interpersonal skills to interface with team members and customers to promote positive outcomes.
  • Proven track record of good performance and attendance.
