Essential Duties:
- As a Scrum Master, you will lead project teams in adopting agile methodologies and scrum practices to consistently deliver sprint deliverables and value while fostering self-organization.
- This role is crucial in ensuring that agile practices are effectively implemented, leading to successful project outcomes and continuous team improvement.
Key Responsibilities:
- Agile adoption and coaching: Guide and coach teams on agile principles and methodologies, ensuring effective story writing/mapping, estimation, workflow, and firm sprint commitments. Support the team in achieving self-organization and accountability.
- Sprint facilitation: Promote and ensure successful achievement of sprint goals by facilitating communication between the product owner and the team. Help the team understand the need for clear and concise product backlog items.
- Scrum ceremonies: Lead and facilitate scrum ceremonies, including sprint planning, daily stand-ups, sprint reviews, retrospectives, and ad hoc sessions.
- Support Product Owner: Assist with backlog management, release planning, road-mapping, and defining effective sprint goals.
- Communication management: Ensure transparent communication and information dissemination. Facilitate conflict resolution, problem-solving, and the development of new solutions and approaches to ongoing challenges. Foster an environment where team members feel comfortable raising concerns.
- Remove impediments: Identify and remove any blockers that may impede the team's progress. Proactively address issues to ensure smooth sprint execution.
- Stakeholder engagement: Facilitate communication and collaboration between internal and external stakeholders. Remove barriers between stakeholders and scrum teams to streamline work intake and prioritization processes. Arrange and prepare for other meetings as required.
- Risk Navigation: Navigate the team through uncertainty, risks, and complexities while communicating these risks to stakeholders.
- Performance monitoring and reporting: Track and report on key metrics such as sprint velocity, burn-down charts, and cycle time. Analyze performance data to identify areas for improvement. Encourage the use of agile metrics to drive decision-making and continuous improvement.
- Team development and continuous improvement: Establish communities of practice, and promote a culture of continuous learning and improvement within the team. Support team members in developing their skills and understanding of agile practices. Assist team in reflecting and improving their roles and productivity. Facilitate workshops and training sessions as needed.
- Agile practices Advocacy: Advocate for agile values and principles; focus, commitment, respect, openness, and courage within the organization. Promote best practices and ensure adherence to the scrum framework. Encourage experimentation and adaptation of processes to fit the team's needs.
- Work within the standards defined by the project team and in the absence of standards, work with the project team to define new standards. Utilize project-selected software and tools (e.g., Azure DevOps, Microsoft Office).
- Other responsibilities as required or requested.
Equipment requirements:
- Resources should be prepared to provide their own computer and related equipment.
- The computer's operating system must be a modern version of Windows or MacOS that is compatible with Azure Virtual Desktop (AVD) and related software for remote access.
- Windows is preferred due to better compatibility. AVD/remote-related software will be installed on the resource's computer.
- In the event that the Contractor’s resources are directed to work remotely, the Contractor shall be responsible for providing all of its equipment, including computers, software, printers, supplies, desks, and chairs. However, the Province shall ensure that the Contractor’s resources have the necessary access and credentials to the system.
- In the event that the Contractor’s resources are directed to work in person, the Province shall provide the requisite office space, furniture, and office supplies. However, the Contractor shall continue to be responsible for providing computers and software and the Province shall continue to ensure that the Contractor’s resources have the necessary access and credentials to the system.
- The fixed rate quoted must be inclusive of all overhead, office space and equipment, including supplies, administrative burden, markup and all other costs to perform the Services for the duration of the Contract.
Working Hours:
- Standard Hours of work are 08:15 – 16:30 Alberta time, Monday through Friday excluding holidays observed by the Province.
- It is anticipated the role will be hybrid or remote; however, in the event of an onsite meeting, travel to attend on-site meetings will not be compensated, nor any expenses related to relocation, commuting, housing/accommodation, food/drink.
Notes on Location:
- Resources in Edmonton will work hybrid to join the team in person. Resources outside of Edmonton may work remotely, though must be available for onsite meetings when required.
- Onsite meetings include but are not limited to strategic, architectural, and technical discussions, and meetings with team members, senior managers, directors, executive directors, and business clients. The frequency of meetings could be up to 3-4 times per year.
Mandatory Training Courses:
- Once hired, the resource will be required to complete all mandatory training, which includes but is not limited to Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act and Security awareness training. There may also be some optional courses as well.

- Financial/Pricing: 20%
- Resource Qualifications: 20%
- Interview Process: 60%
Required Education:
- Active professional Scrum Master certification.
Other:
- Eligibility for Enhanced Security Clearance.
Required Technical Skills:
- Knowledge of various software development methodologies (i.e., agile, waterfall, scrum).
Work Experience:
- Experience leading and facilitating key agile ceremonies - 3 years.
- Experience leading and mentoring team(s) in agile principles, policies, and procedures - 3 years.
- Experience with Agile methodology - 3 years.
- Experience with software development processes and all associated best practices - 2 years.
- Experience working on agile software development and modern, service design based - 2 years.
Nice to Have:
- Directly related experience in web service or development - 2 years.
- Experience delivering training sessions via web-based interactive technology, i.e., TEAMs - 1 year.
- Experience developing and maintaining positive stakeholder relationships across the client - 2 years.
- Experience working in or for the public sector - 1 year.
- Experience working with or a strong understanding of Microsoft Dynamics - 2 years.
- Experience working with teams that also apply UX design, and service design - 2 years.
