AECOM is seeking a Mechanical Engineer to be based in Burnaby, British Columbia. This position is expected to begin in December 2022. As a part of our continued growth, our Burnaby office is seeking an energetic and ambitious Mechanical engineer-in-training to support the design and construction of buildings within the Transportation sector.

You will work in a team environment with other engineers, technologists, BIM specialists, and project managers to deliver projects in this sector, as well as in support of those in other business lines (such as Buildings + Places and Water) to our clients both here in BC and across Western Canada. You will also be a part of multidisciplinary project teams comprising of other engineering disciplines, consultants, and architects.

Responsibilities Include:
  1. Assisting in preparation of deliverables and products such as presentation materials, calculations, drawings, specifications, selections, and cost estimates related to heating, ventilating, and air-conditioning (HVAC) and plumbing systems for commercial, institutional, and light industrial facilities.
  2. Performing field investigation for incorporating existing conditions into construction documents.
  3. Performing construction administration duties, such as shop drawing review, RFI response, construction inspection, and respond to client questions.
  4. Working within a project team environment and possessing good presentation and client interface skills.
  5. Coordinating work with other project disciplines.
  6. Working with engineers in making technical mechanical decisions based on building code interpretation and company standard practice.
  7. Staying abreast of industry standards and approaches, and best practices.
  8. Ensuring project work is undertaken is accordance with corporate health and safety policies and quality management systems.
  9. Performing assignments of limited scope and complexity.
  10. Uses a variety of standard engineering methods and techniques in solving problems.
  11. Assisting engineers in carrying out technical tasks requiring accuracy in calculations, completeness of data, and adherence to prescribed analysis, design, or computation methods.
  12. Applying standard practices and techniques in specific situations.
  13. Gathers and correlates basic engineering data using established and well-defined procedures.
Minimum Requirements

Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering and registered (or be eligible for immediate registration) as an Engineer-in-Training in British Columbia

Preferred Qualifications
  1. 2+ years’ experience (ideally with an engineering firm) designing HVAC and plumbing for commercial, institutional, and light industrial facilities.
  2. Experience delivering industrial, institutional, transportation, and or water/wastewater infrastructure projects.
  3. Familiarity with ISO quality management systems.
  4. Excellent written and verbal communications.
  5. Experience working within internal multidisciplinary teams.
  6. Experience with Building Energy Modeling and their software platforms (IES, eQuest, Energy Plus, HOT2000, RETScreen, etc.) would be considered an asset.
  7. Experience with sustainability standards (LEED, Net Zero, Passive House, Envision) would be considered an asset.
