Role Overview
The Apprentice - Machinist will be responsible for ensuring prevention and maintenance as required and performed in a professional manner. Apprentice - Machinists set up and operate a variety of machine tools to cut or grind metal, plastic, or other materials to make or modify parts or products with precise dimensions.
This role requires membership in the Teamsters Union, Local 213.
Main Responsibilities
- Read and interpret engineering drawings, blueprints, charts and tables or study sample parts to determine machining operation to be performed, and plan best sequence of operations.
- Compute dimensions and tolerances and measure and lay out work pieces.
- Fit and assemble machined metal parts and subassemblies using hand and power tools.
- Verify dimensions of products for accuracy and conformance to specifications using precision measuring instruments
- May set up and program machine tools for use by machining tool operators.
Compensation
Apprentice wage rates fall between65%and95%of the Journeyperson-Tradesperson rate, which stands at $45.90 per hour. We take into account the apprentice’s most recent level of schooling completed and the hours recorded with Skilled Trades BC.
Additionally, apprentices can receive a tool premium of $0.20 cents per hour worked.
Hours of Work
- Monday to Friday, 6:00am – 2:30pm
What you’ll bring
- Must have completed Machinist Foundation course.
- Ability to read, interpret and follow diagrams, drawings, blueprints, sketches, assembly instructions, operations manuals, manufacturer's instructions, troubleshooting instructions and engineering specifications.
- Strong understanding of mechanical, electromechanical, general rotating machinery, wire production machinery, hydraulics, water cooling, pumps, and other systems.
- Strong knowledge of general maintenance processes, best practices, and methods.
- Strong working knowledge and dexterity use of tools and measuring devices such as calipers, rules, micrometer, and other measuring tools.
- Ability to lift up to 50lbs.
