What is the Opportunity?

Reporting to the Estimating Manager, the Estimator will be responsible for accurately estimating the cost of all elements for High Voltage Transmission projects within our Utilities sector. This includes accurately estimating the cost of labour, equipment and materials for the supply and installation, as well as, responsible for the direction, preparation and documentation of work completion estimates for electrical/hydro utilities construction projects.

What You’ll Do Here

Shared accountability for the overall financial performance of projects awarded.

  1. Analyzes documents, drawings, specifications, addenda, and quotations in preparation for pricing.
  2. Reviewing project site prior to price preparation.
  3. Performs quantity take-off from drawings where applicable.
  4. Coordinates pricing from Suppliers / Subcontractors and incorporates into estimate.
  5. Collaborates with Procurement to obtain pricing from Suppliers and incorporates into estimate.
  6. Collaborates effectively with Operations, PMO, Finance, Procurement and Owners staff as appropriate.
  7. Formulates all costs for tender submission – labour, equipment, material, rentals and subcontracts.
  8. Accountable for accuracy and completeness of submissions.
  9. Conducts Bid Closing and Bid Handover meetings, and job set-ups as required.
  10. Prepares recommendations for award of Subcontracts.
  11. Ensures the distribution of documentation appropriately upon award.
  12. Tracks, forecasts, and reports on the financial and operational performance of selected projects and provides data to support forecasts.
  13. Supports Scope Change development as required.
  14. Provides technical support to field staff as appropriate.
  15. Ensures Post Bid / Post Project Analysis completion and ensures that associated learnings are captured, and that appropriate internal communication takes place.
  16. Shared accountability for the overall financial performance of awarded projects.
  17. Assists with Prequalification, RFQ and RFI submissions as required.
  18. Incorporates / complies with Aecon’s risk management policies and procedures.
  19. Drives positive relationships with Clients, Consultants, Subcontractors and internal stakeholders.
  20. Protects all forms of proprietary information.
  21. Frequent contact with the public (Job sites visits, Clients, Consultants, Sub trades).
  22. Travel required to and from owner offices, work sites and for pre-tender site review, can include overnight travel.
What You Bring to the Team

Diploma / Degree / Trade Certification – electrical/hydro focus.

5-10 years of experience as an estimator.

Lump Sum, Unit rate, EPC, budgetary and MSA estimating experience.

Transmission field operations experience is an asset.

Transmission project management experience is an asset.

Hard Dollar and/or HeavyBid software experience is an asset.

Ability to read and understand Contractual terms and conditions, scope of work documents, and design drawings as it relates to pricing impacts.

Self-motivated with excellent organizational skills.

Strong computer skills – estimating software, P6, MS Excel / Word / MS Outlook, MS Teams.

Ability to work accurately, effectively under pressure.

Adaptable to flexible work schedule when required to meet deadlines, working independently with minimal supervision, and with others as a team.

Valid driver’s license and ability to travel as required.

Professional designation an asset (P.Eng., C.E.T., CTech).

Familiar with different voltage Classes 44-1000kV.

Material supplier management experience is an asset.

Right of way development and reclamation.

Foundations installation experience (Concrete and Steel).

Structure assembly experience (wood, tubular steel, and lattice steel).

Stringing operations (traditional and helicopter) and related material/component knowledge.

Demolition scopes.

Hot Work knowledge is an asset.
