Site: West 5th Campus (Hamilton Mountain) Application Dates: Opening Date: 18/12/2025 Closing Date: 02/01/2026 Applications must be received online by 12:00 midnight on the Closing Date The EDI Consultant will focus on the development and execution of programs and tools that further and improve Black Health and EDI-IR (Equity, Diversity, Inclusion and Indigenous Reconciliation) across St Joseph’s Health System (SJHS). The implementation of the 2025 SJHH Black Health Plan, and translating this work across the SJHS, will be a key priority of this role. In addition to the Black Health mandate, the scope of work includes the support and implementation of anti‑racism and EDI‑IR culture change across SJHS. The EDI Consultant will work collaboratively with the Senior EDI Consultant, Indigenous Health Team, and with other key partners to design, develop, and deliver strategic and impactful Black Health, anti‑racism, and EDI‑IR programming. Qualifications 3‑year Community College diploma in Health, Education or Social Sciences—related field, Human Resources, Community Development, and/or EDI‑IR or ARAO specialization required Undergraduate Degree in Health, education, or social sciences‑related field, human resources, community development, and/or EDI‑IR or ARAO specialization preferred Masters Degree preferred EDI, Communications, HR Certification preferred Minimum 5 years practical and related experience with Black Health and anti‑racism frameworks and strategies (in healthcare preferred) Experience developing and implementing anti‑racism learning strategies and solutions Demonstrated successful experience in effecting change and transformation in a unionized environment Preference will be given to candidates with lived experience of anti‑Black racism who have an understanding of barriers faced by Black and racialized communities in the Hamilton, Brantford, and Guelph areas Experience in identifying and addressing the health equity barriers of Black and racialized communities Three (3) years progressive experience in working with Black, racialized and other historically marginalized communities in a healthcare, community, or academic environment with an intersectional approach Canadian Certified Inclusion Professional (CCIP) is an asset Membership with the Canadian Centre for Diversity and Inclusion is an asset Canadian Human Resources Professional (CHRP) designation an asset, with additional courses/training related to equity, diversity and inclusion Alternate Dispute Resolution (ADR) certification, and/or Meditation and Conflict Resolution courses would be an asset Bilingualism in French/English an asset Understands the principles of Black Health, anti‑racism and EDI‑IR, and is able to design, develop, implement and evaluate the effectiveness of in‑person, virtual, and e‑learning activities or programs Strong leadership, collaboration and interpersonal skills with the ability to build effective working relationships with clients and colleagues Demonstrated leadership in working with historically oppressed communities, navigating institutional resistance and leading equity and anti‑oppression work and/or demonstrated experience influencing positive change in Black Health, equity, diversity, inclusion and Indigenous Reconciliation Demonstrated consultative approach with an inclusion mindset and the ability to effectively build relationships across all levels of the organization Strong conceptual critical thinking and design skills as applied to policies, programs, and processes Demonstrated experience in effecting change and transformation in a unionized environment Change management certification is an asset Subject matter expert to providing coaching and support on matters of Black Health and anti‑racism Has excellent communication and facilitation skills and is able to effectively lead a variety of meetings with multiple levels of internal clients Excellent organizational, problem‑solving and systems thinking skills Skilled in the use of Microsoft Office suite of tools (Teams, Word, Excel and PowerPoint) Must be flexible and adaptable Responsibilities Lead the implementation of the SJHH Black Health Plan at SJHH and facilitate the development of similar plans and activities across the SJHS partner organizations. In collaboration with the Senior EDI consultant, develop and implement anti‑racism/anti‑discrimination learning and training programs and tools that engage staff at all levels, including design, communication, implementation, training, and ongoing support. Conduct needs assessments to scope organization Black Health, anti‑racism, and EDI‑IR priorities that impact people and culture. Establish measures of success of key initiatives, evaluate and monitor their effectiveness, and leverage analysis to improve Black Health, anti‑racism, and EDI‑IR interventions. Work with the Senior EDI Consultant to collect and analyze voluntary workforce socio‑demographic data (as a part of tracking measurement of diversity progress) and interface with key partners to advance representation and inclusiveness in SJHS organizations. In collaboration with the Senior EDI Consultant, lead the design, development and delivery of targeted Black Health, anti‑racism, and EDI‑IR interventions to enhance individual, team and organizational performance and support the SJHS and partner organizations’ strategic plans. In collaboration with the Senior EDI consultant, provide support, guidance and coaching to staff and leaders across the SJHS on Black Health, anti‑racism, and EDI‑IR, based on needs assessment, research and fact‑finding. In collaboration with the senior EDI consultant, support patient sociodemographic data collection that adheres to data governance guidelines such as EGAP principles and that can be used to improve Black Health, and to reduce barriers to care to Black, racialized, and other marginalized patients. In collaboration with the senior EDI consultant, create engaging Black Health, anti‑racism, and EDI‑IR awareness campaigns and communication involving key partners, leaders, committees and teams such as Recruitment and Public Affairs; including building Black Health, anti‑racism, and EDI‑IR content on SJHH intranet pages. Based on evidence‑based best practice, provide expertise on all matters related to Black Health, anti‑racism, and EDI‑IR strategies, programs, processes and policies and support the establishment of Black Health, anti‑racism, and EDI‑IR standards and guidelines as needed. Develop a comprehensive system to review, monitor and track progress of Black Health and anti‑racism initiatives and identify risks, solutions and opportunities. Act as a champion of Black Health, Equity, Diversity and Inclusion (including health equity) and actively work towards identifying and dismantling systemic barriers across the organization with a focus on systemic change. Ensure all initiatives are aligned with EDI‑IR and Indigenous Health plans and frameworks through regular and close collaboration with the Senior EDI Consultant and Indigenous Health Team. Conduct environment scans and community consultation to identify emerging health needs and assess priorities and issues for Black, racialized and other historically marginalized communities. Work in consultation with key partners internally (such as EDI councils, Indigenous Health Team, Affinity Groups, Patient Family Advisory Council, HR and Staff committees) to build integrated and impactful Black Health, anti‑racism, and EDI‑IR initiatives. Community consultation and liaising externally with the GHHN Black Health Working Group, other Black‑led organizations and organizations doing anti‑racism/EDI‑IR work, and Black and racialized community members/patients to ensure community accountability. Work closely with Executives, Directors and Managers to coach, plan and implement Black Health and anti‑racism change initiatives/strategies to support the Black Health Plan and related EDI‑IR frameworks. Consult with key internal and external partners as needed on the implementation of EGAP Principles at SJHS and establish connections with Black‑led broader research and health equity initiatives. Provide guidance for workplace investigations involving human rights concerns related to Black Health, anti‑racism, and EDI‑IR related matters. In partnership with OH&S, provide support, engage in problem‑solving and offer resources to Black, racialized, and other marginalized healthcare workers who have experienced discrimination while at work. In partnership with Patient Relations and Quality, provide expert opinion, engage in problem‑solving and planning responses to Black, racialized, and other marginalized patients/family/visitors who submit feedback related to discrimination. Provide support to Senior EDI Consultant in establishing organization‑wide processes that support Black Health, anti‑racism, and EDI‑IR events programming and support implementation (e.g., Black History Month and other EDI‑IR related events). Participate on committees, teams and programs with regards to furthering SJHS’s commitment to Black Health, anti‑racism, and EDI‑IR. Act as a point of contact for managers in units/departments for specific Black Health, anti‑racism, and EDI‑IR interventions. Seeks guidance on escalated matters and emergent situations.
