The Aquatics Manager ensures that the service (swimming lessons) is delivered to clients at the highest possible standard. In conjunction with delivering an exceptional level of service the Aquatics Manager is responsible for ensuring a safe environment on the pool deck in adherence with regulatory mandates including but not limited to municipal and provincial legislation and regulations. Moreover, the Aquatics Manager must administer their jobs whilst upholding the company’s core values and driving its mission.

Areas of Responsibility

Team Member Management:

  • Oversee the training process of new Water Safety Instructor (WSI) candidates through a team of Master Water Safety Instructors (MWSI), Aquatic Supervisors, and training coordinators.
  • Ensure that team members are updated on all relevant curriculum updates.
  • Ensure team members maintain their proficiency in the Aqua-Tot’s curriculum.
  • Conduct regular Key Performance Indicator (KPI) evaluations on aquatics team members (WSI’s, Co-teachers, IWSE trainings) to ensure consistency and acceptable level of service delivery. KPI’s may also be delegated to qualified team members per standard operating procedures.
  • Mentor Aquatic Supervisors (ASUP’s) in their respective roles and identify opportunities for development.
  • Conduct regular meetings with Aquatic Supervisors and other key aquatics leaders to ensure adequate communication, provide updates, and on-going professional development.
  • Train aquatics supervisors on their positions and coach them so that they maintain their skills.
  • Interview potential aquatics candidates and make hiring decisions in conjunction with the human resources team.
  • Work with the Aquatics Coordinator to ensure all onboarding trainings are scheduled and completed in a timely manner.
  • Administer team member discipline as necessary.
  • Communicate updates and important information to team members promptly and effectively.
  • Plan and deliver quarterly aquatics in-services with the help of aquatic supervisors and other members of the leadership team as necessary.
  • Create and maintain schedules for aquatics team members in line with attendance policy guidelines.
  • Develop the next generation of Swim Instructors

Facility Management:

  • Oversee pool mechanical functions ensuring regulatory compliance with applicable laws and regulations pertaining to the region in which the school is operating.
  • Report facility deficiencies to the General Manager. If deficiencies result in an unsafe environment, ensure the problem is rectified immediately or a temporary solution is put in place in lieu of a permanent solution.
  • Conduct regular audits of teaching and pool equipment requesting orders as necessary to maintain safety and to allow WSI’s to adequately perform their duties.

Reporting and Compliance:

  • Complete the Aquatics sections of the Operations Weekly report on a weekly basis.
  • Review and contribute to the weekly leadership meeting agenda in order to proactively solve issues.
  • Fill daily shift reports and ensure its accuracy including reporting team member lateness, absences, etc.
  • Ensure operational checklists are being filled correctly. Follow up on incorrect items and check for quality of completed items on a regular basis in an ad-hoc fashion.

Client Management and Service:

  • Provide a personalized level of services to clients who have inquires, issues, or general grievances related to aquatics.
  • Provide oversight on the progression of all students.
  • Oversee the propel student program and ensure the program is running according to brand standards and standard operating procedures.
  • Provide insight and guidance to client care team members about curriculum-based inquiries and issues.

Ideal Candidate Profile and Job Requirements:

  • Post secondary diploma in Recreation & Leisure, Sports Management, Kinesiology, Physical Education or equivalent experience.
  • Hold a valid and current National Lifeguard certification.
  • Hold a valid and current Standard First Aid with CPR-C certification.
  • Lifesaving Society Aquatics Supervisor and/or Aquatics Manager certification considered an asset.
  • Previous aquatics experience in a supervisory capacity considered an asset.
  • Bilingualism (French & English) considered an asset.
  • Minimum of 2 years in a leadership role where the candidate was required to train and oversee team members.
  • Experience working with kids and families considered an asset.
  • High attention to detail.
  • Highly organized and effective individual.
  • Willing to learn and constantly improve their abilities to lead and manager team members.
  • Ability to be self-reflective and receive feedback.
