JOB FUNCTION
Saskatchewan Blue Cross values data as an asset that can be leveraged to understand trends, make data-driven decisions, reduce risk, and increase operational efficiencies. Reporting directly to the Director, Information Systems & Technology, the Data Analyst will be responsible for supporting the organization by having data marts updated, creating reports, and making them available on the reporting portal. The Data Analyst contributes to the ongoing improvement of data marts and reporting services, delivering high-quality reports on organizational data, and is committed to quality standards and collaboration with the team through project assistance, information sharing, and contributing to departmental goals.
DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
- Partner closely with business users to understand requirements and rapidly prototype reports to maximize end-user involvement and solicit feedback.
- Propose recommendations on Datamart construction to be used for reporting.
- Create and maintain monthly and ad hoc reports for teams across the organization.
- Reconcile differences between reports to ensure accuracy.
- Support employees and leaders with training and guidance on using the self-service reporting portal.
- Maintain and build SSRS reports as required by the organization.
- Develop Power BI reports based on the requirements from the organization.
- Maintain the extraction, transformation, and loading of data for optimal performance in delivering business requirements for reporting services.
- Work with internal stakeholders including Data Engineers, Design, Product, and leadership teams to assist with data-related issues.
- Identify opportunities for process improvement and automation to increase efficiency and effectiveness of reporting.
- Maintain and develop knowledge in databases, data mart, and analytical concepts and methodologies.
- Leverage strong communication and collaboration skills to understand requirements, explain technical concepts, and align data marts and reporting solutions with business needs.
- Collaborate with various stakeholders, including Data Analysts, Business SMEs, Business Leaders, and IT teams, to achieve operational goals.
- Additional duties and responsibilities as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS & SKILLS
- Completion of a Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Systems Technology or Computer Science with a focus on databases and data analytics, or equivalent combination of education, training, and experience is required.
- 3-5 years of previous related job experience.
- Experience with tools and systems on MS SQL Server BI Stack, including SSRS and TSQL, Power Query, Power BI.
- Experience in Microsoft Fabric and Azure DevOps would be considered an asset.
- Knowledge of database fundamentals such as multidimensional database design and relational database design.
- Understanding of software development architecture as well as technical aspects.
- Analyzing data in Microsoft Access databases, Excel sheets, and summarizing data with pivot tables.
- Robust organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple tasks and set priorities within established deadlines.
- Strong work ethic and the ability to work independently.
- High levels of integrity and professionalism.
- Computer literacy with the ability to easily learn new technology and programs.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Dedicated to the principles of exceptional service, committed to responding to, anticipating, and addressing needs for both internal and external customers.
- Work effectively with others in a team environment as well as independently with minimal supervision, and present strong collaboration and negotiation skills.

- Criminal Record and background check satisfactory to Saskatchewan Blue Cross.
