Description

 

Spur Petroleum Ltd. is currently looking for a Safety Advisor in its Marten Hills/Nipisi field in the Athabasca/Slave Lake area of Northern Alberta. This will be a full-time position.


The successful candidate will be responsible for providing Health and Safety support and guidance to drilling/completions, facilities, pipelines, construction, and production operations on a day to day basis. This includes the delivery and execution of Spur’s Health and Safety Management System to align with existing and expanding heavy oil and gas production in the area.


Responsibilities

  • Participate in and chair monthly safety meetings on a rotational basis.
  • Assist with annual facility inspections and compliance evaluations.
  • Conduct periodic operational inspections including drilling and service rigs as well as facilities, pipeline, and construction operations.
  • Assist with incident response and investigations where required.
  • Conduct safety orientations with 3rd party service providers.
  • Assist with management of field level emergency response planning including plan development, revisions, implementation, and training.
  • Act as a resource for field operations staff and provide assistance where required concerning safety related issues.
  •  Assist with Spur’s Contractor Management program by performing periodic “spot checks” to ensure compliance with Spur’s Corporate Policies and Standards.


 Qualifications

The ideal candidate will have the following qualifications:


  • Minimum of 10 years experience in the oil and gas industry with a preference of a combination of operating experience and knowledge in drilling and completions operations.
  •  Knowledge of heavy oil operations.
  •  Familiarity with applicable regulatory legislation (AER Directives, OH&S Act, Regulation & Code, etc.).
  •  Ability to work well independently as well as with various groups within the company – field operations, drilling & completions, facilities, pipeline, and construction.
  •  Strong commitment to Spur’s HSE Management System.
  •  Strong leadership, communication, and organizational skills.
  •  Basic computer proficiency with Word, Excel and Outlook is expected.
  • This position has been identified as safety sensitive, and the successful candidate may be required to take pre-employment medical and drug/alcohol assessments.
  • This position requires the operation of a motor vehicle, applicant must maintain a clean driving record.


The successful candidate will be required to reside in the Slave Lake / Athabasca or surrounding area. Travel back and forth to the field will be required 4-5 days per week.
