POSITION PROFILE – INVESTMENT ANALYST, ALTERNATIVE ASSETS

Westerkirk Capital Inc. (‘WCI’), a private investment company based in Victoria, BC is seeking an Investment Analyst, Alternative Assets. The organization is a single-family office managing assets via internal direct and third-party/external managers across a variety of portfolios and asset classes including fixed income, public equity, private equity, hedge funds, infrastructure, and real estate.

The Investment Analyst, Alternative Assets will be involved in business analysis, due diligence, investment selection, and investment reporting. In addition, the successful incumbent will play a key role in assisting with the development of a growing investment team and supporting the build-out of key investment infrastructure elements for our portfolios and platforms. The salary range for this role is $70k - $85k, however actual salary may fall outside of this range depending on various factors, including but not limited to, experience and expertise.

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES:

  • Supporting the Portfolio Manager, Alternative Investments, and the broader Alternative Investments team in the following key areas:
  • Supporting the on-going development, implementation, and execution of the alternative assets’ strategy.
  • Assisting in the oversight of investments in alternative asset classes (private equity, venture, real estate, infrastructure, hedge funds) including the engagement & coordination of external consultants; and implementation of approved managers.
  • Challenging and assisting in the development of investment selection frameworks and processes.
  • Researching, recommending, and managing investment opportunities in private markets, including co-investment opportunities and direct investments.
  • Supporting the underwriting process for new opportunities, including (i) financial and business modelling; (ii) due diligence of investment opportunities; (iii) preparing investment memos; and (iii) collaborating with other team members on investment research.
  • Support in the monitoring of existing investments to ensure ongoing alignment with strategy and stated goals.
  • Preparing analysis and reporting on the performance of existing investments, including directly owned businesses.
  • Participating in the ongoing management and monitoring of both financial and operational aspects of existing and new investments.
  • Working and collaborating on proposals to enhance risk-adjusted performance of the overall portfolio of alternative assets considering all aspects of portfolio management to ensure effective management of costs, risks, and after-tax returns.
  • Collaborating with Finance, Legal, Investment Operations, and other external professionals, on issues related to financial accounting, onboarding, and reporting of Westerkirk’s investments.
  • Prepare and present ad hoc analysis and research.

QUALIFICATIONS, SKILLS & ABILITIES:

  • Bachelor's Degree with a minimum two years of finance, investing, and/or consulting experience.
  • Progress towards CIM, CFA, CPA, CBV, or CAIA designations is an asset.
  • Excellent quantitative, analytical, financial modelling, problem solving and organizational skills.
  • Rigorous attention to detail.
  • Knowledge of portfolio management and risk management principles and practices.
  • Experience with Bloomberg and ERP software is considered an asset.
  • Service-oriented, pro-active, self-starter with an excellentattention to detail.
  • Ability tomaintain privacy and confidentiality at all times, exercisediplomacy, discretion and respect boundaries.
  • Excellent communication (both written and verbal) and solid interpersonal skills that allow one to work effectively in a diverse working environment.
  • Ability to liaiseand communicate effectively with all levelsof executive, staff,and external stakeholders.
  • Ability to work under pressureand adapt to changing Executiveand business needs.
  • Ability to cultivate partnerships and work collaboratively in a team environment with both internal and external partners.
  • Honesty and a commitment to upholding the highest ethical standards.
