As a member of the AES design team, you’ll grow your project portfolio by designing power distribution, lighting, fire alarm, and communication systems for a wide range of facilities.About the RoleThe Intermediate Electrical Designer is responsible for developing and integrating electrical design details into working drawings, preparing construction documents for clients, completing site reviews and attending meetings. The ideal candidate has prior experience in consulting and a desire to work in a collaborative team environment with a mentor to develop their technical skillset. The designer in this role will focus on electrical systems for significant commercial, residential, and institutional facilities in the Metro Vancouver area.ResponsibilitiesWork under the direction of Project Managers to develop construction document packages and reportsAssist lead Engineers with planning, studies, and assessmentsConduct site reviews to determine and document existing conditionsPrepare engineering studies and design calculations such as feeder sizing, voltage drop, overcurrent protection, fault current, lighting calculations, etc.Layout electrical equipment and wiring devices, branch circuiting, lighting design, life safety systems, communication systems, and security systemsPrepare electrical design mark-ups for the drafting department and coordinate electrical package productionLiaise with utilities for new servicesOversee construction and commissioning process, and prepare documentation such as field reports, change orders, and shop drawing reviewLiaise with Architects, Interior Designers, and other professionalsOther duties as requiredQualificationsBachelor’s degree or two years post-secondary education in Electrical EngineeringCandidates working towards P.Eng or AScT are preferredCandidates with valid BC drivers licence are preferredRequired Technical Skills & ExperienceAt least 2-5 years consulting engineering experience, specifically in the building industry with electrical projectsExperience in new development projects and tenant improvement projectsFamiliar with electrical design requirements for different types of sectors from residential, mixed use, healthcare, institutional to light industrialExperience in residential and commercial projects is an assetProficiency in reading and interpreting blueprints, schematics, and various other construction documentationStrong communication skills to coordinate with clients and other disciplines (Architectural, Mechanical, Interior Designers, etc.)Ability to quickly absorb and use company-specific techniques, standards and proceduresFamiliar with building codes, electrical code, fire alarm standards, ASHRAE and LEED requirementsExperience with short circuit and fault study software is an assetExperience with Revit and AutoCADExperience with lighting modelling software, such as AGI32 or Visual, is an assetPreferred SkillsAbility and desire to work within a team environmentStrong work ethic and self-disciplineOrganized and able to prioritize various tasks and have a flexible approach to assignmentsWillingness to meet quick deadlines and handle multiple projects in a fast-paced environmentSelf-starter who can work independently as well as on a teamBenefitsFlexible Work Environment (Hybrid work option upon successful completion of probationary period)Extended Health BenefitsHealthcare Spending AccountDental CoverageRRSP Matching PlanEmployee and Family Assistance ProgramBike Storage FacilitiesTuition Reimbursement/Professional Licensing/In-House TrainingEqual Opportunity StatementAES is an equal opportunity employer.
