Our Toronto office is seeking a Specifications Writer to join our team to prepare project manuals for a variety of complex architectural project types.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  1. Preparing technical documents (specifications and other contract documents) for incorporation into Project Manuals for a wide range of highly complex building project types (commercial mixed-use, health care, public/civic, etc.).
  2. Interpreting architectural, related engineering, and other related contract documents (drawings, specifications, reports) and assisting the Project Manager in locating information particular to the project in the contract documents.
  3. Overseeing the preparation of Project Manuals with the Project team.
  4. Providing quality control review of contract documents prepared by internal and external source specifications.
  5. Training of Junior and Intermediate level specification writers.
  6. Educating staff on issues related to specifications, keynoting, technical material information, Project Manuals, and assisting with educational bulletins about new product materials and new technology for staff members.
  7. Collaborating with Project Managers, Team Leads, Architects, Engineers, and Designers.
  8. Completing tasks in line with deadlines.
  9. Assisting in the ongoing development of office master specifications.
  10. Coordinating the scheduling and production of Project Manuals with teams for the creation of on-time deliverables.
  11. Collaborating with project teams, specification team members, document control, and IT staff to ensure smooth information transfer and precise document development.
  12. Conducting technical research of new building technology methods and materials.
  13. Acting as a resource for technical questions, technical detail review, submittal review, and material and product selections.
  14. Maintaining technical documents (codes, standards, technical literature).

Qualifications for this position include:

  1. 10+ years in the architectural profession with a minimum of 5+ years of relevant experience.
  2. 5+ years of dedicated specification writing for various building types.
  3. Bachelor's degree in Architecture or Diploma in Architectural Technology.
  4. Good communication and organization skills.

Preferred Qualifications:

  1. Registered Specification Writer (RSW) or Certified Specification Practitioner (CSP).
  2. Active member of Construction Specifications Canada (CSC).
  3. Active member of Construction Specifications Institute (CSI).
  4. LEED AP.

Skills:

  1. Mandatory: Advanced level Microsoft Office.
  2. AutoCAD/Revit an asset.

Minimum Salary: $70,000. Salary is based on skills and experience.
