Medical Director, Elizabeth Bagshaw Clinic
Who we are
The Elizabeth Bagshaw Clinic (EBC)is non-profit, community-based health clinic. Since 1990, the EBC has provided reproductive and abortion care in a safe, non-judgmental, confidential, and respectful atmosphere. The clinic is committed to providing a high quality of care that is patient centered, culturally sensitive, and trauma-informed.
The EBC team is interprofessional; physicians, clerical staff, nursing, leadership, and other support team members. We are a UBC clinical teaching site; training physicians and nurses in the provision of abortion care. EBC provides reproductive and abortion care to women, trans, and non-binary people in Vancouver area and beyond.
EBC is contracted by the Vancouver Coastal Health Authority (VCHA) and accredited by the College of Physicians and Surgeons of British Columbia (CPSBC), and the National Abortion Federation (NAF).
What you’ll do
Reporting to the EBC Board of Directors and the Executive Director, you will provide medical leadership and direction to the Elizabeth Bagshaw Clinic. This position includes approximately 0.1 FTE of clinical leadership and is accountable for quality of medical care, meeting accreditation standards, setting clinical standards, clinical outcomes, and resource utilization management.
Additional responsibilities include cultivating alliances with partnered hospitals and community agencies for the coordination and provision of best abortion access and care.

Leadership:You have exceptional leadership ability, ideally with strong communications and interpersonal skills. You have demonstrated ability in leading staff through significant organizational change, accreditation, and quality improvement. You have strong problem-solving skills, are results and solutions oriented, and are skilled at developing coalitions. You lead by example by providing support and developing strong working relationships through interprofessional collaboration. You have proven experience in building positive partnerships with strategic partners.
Formal training in physician leadership, quality improvement, and organizational change is a strong asset.
A strong communicator and facilitator, you have an enthusiasm for teaching and research. You are knowledgeable in current evidence related to abortion services. In partnership with the Executive Director, you will support the growth and develop of research work independently and in collaboration with external parties (e.g. BC Women’s hospital, WHRI, etc). You are someone who wants to make a difference and who has the ability to influence the development of long-term directions, priorities and strategic options.
Clinical Practice:You are committed to your clinical practice and strive to provide the highest level of care possible to women, trans, and non-binary individuals. In this role, you will apply your knowledge and experience to monitor all operations and lead continuous quality improvement for your department while remaining a practicing physician. The Medical Director will remain an active member of the on-call roster for the EBC. This position is suited to those with demonstrated commitment to ongoing learning and professional development.
Qualifications: Candidates will hold a Medical Degree. Candidates will be eligible for licensure and be able to meet the Medical Director Standards set by the CPSBC. Candidates will have a strong background in family planning and experience in provision of abortion services.
Candidates should have FRCSC or equivalent certification in Obstetrics and Gynaecology or licensure with the CFPC with additional training in abortion care.

Job Type: Regular Part-time (0.1 FTE) Medical Director Role paid at the OB Specialty Rate regardless if the successful candidate is a GP or OBGYN anda minimum half day clinical slate
Salary Range: The salary for this position would be in accordance with standard sessional rates set by the Physician’s Master Agreement. Where 0.1 FTE is equivalent to 1 sessional.
