Responsibilities

What your day will look like:

  1. Project Management & Waste Management Engineering
  2. Design (preliminary and detailed) of civil infrastructure and solid waste projects related to solid waste facility design (landfill, transfer station, compost facilities), facility evaluation, facility operations, landfill gas management, leachate management, and construction administration and oversight.
  3. The civil infrastructure components of solid waste facility design projects typically include stormwater management, utilities and services, roadways, and pipes.
  4. Manage and/or be a technical lead on solid waste projects related to planning and approvals, feasibility analysis, and solid waste facility development, operations and monitoring across Canada.
  5. Preparation of technical reports, letters and memorandums, approval and permitting applications and public-friendly documents.
  6. Work with project managers, engineers, environmental scientists and others on a variety of multidisciplinary design teams (including project engineers, planners, civil, structural, mechanical, and electrical engineers, technologists).
  7. Contribute to technical and professional leadership within the firm.
  8. Coordinate and manage project tasks, budgets and schedules.

Business Development:

  1. Contribute to business development activities including the preparation of project work plans, technical and financial proposals, presentations and client liaison.
  2. Business travel to sites or other Dillon offices upon request.

  2. Input to the career development of junior staff, including technical direction, training recommendations, coaching and mentoring.

Qualifications

What you will need to succeed:

  • A degree in civil engineering.
  • Licensed Engineer in Nova Scotia or Ontario, or ability to become one upon joining Dillon.
  • Minimum 5 years of experience. Having previous work experience with solid waste management, civil engineering and/or consulting engineering experience considered an asset.
Experience
  • Strong verbal and written communications skills, and keen attention to detail.
  • Demonstrated abilities in multidisciplinary teamwork.
  • Aptitude to learn.
  • Familiar with relevant provincial and federal environmental legislation, environmental policies, codes and standards.
  • Ability to apply criteria to analytical data.
  • General understanding of the capabilities of AUTOCAD, GIS, or Surfer software is an asset.
