About the job

We are looking for a Quality Assurance Specialist to join our team full time. This position is responsible for supporting members of our quality assurance department to meet our customer’s expectations while complying with Canadian food safety and quality regulations.

The successful candidate must have excellent attention to detail, good time management, the ability to understand and apply technical information and a willingness to learn.

Essential Responsibilities:

  • Plant visits and audits ensuring production facilities are: maintaining proper GMP; following the agreed processes; producing to the required specifications; conducting regular and appropriate product and facility testing
  • Pre-shipment inspections of goods to confirm adherence to specifications
  • Daily review of inbound/outbound QA documentation and product labeling compliance to maintain internal hold and release program
  • Support new product developments; review of product specification, ingredients, allergens, CoA, labelling) for compliance to Canadian regulations and customer expectations, drafting product specification
  • Assist with new supplier onboarding; review of supplier’s food safety and quality programs, HACCP, audit certifications/reports, risk assessment questioners
  • Managing customer complaint follow-ups and investigations, including corrective action reports for multiple brands.
  • Maintain current and accuratesupplier annual audit certifications/reports

Role Requirements:

  • Minimum Education Required: Bachelor’s Degree in Food Science, or related
  • Experience Required: 2-5 years in a quality assurance role, regulatory environment or similar
  • Working knowledge of HACCP, GFSI and Quality Management Systems and their application in food industry
  • Understanding and experience with Fish and Seafood, or Meals Industries; Batter/Breading systems and Sauces Manufacturing is an asset
  • Working knowledge of Canadian food labeling requirements
  • Details oriented with effective problem-solving skills
  • Able to work effectively as an individual with minimal supervision and as a team member with a positive attitude
  • Ability to multi-task and manage multiple priorities simultaneously to meet deadlines in a fast-paced work environment
  • Able to influence and interact effectively with all levels at customer, co-packer, and office locations
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills with good computer skills, with applications such as MS Office, Private label software
  • Extensive travel may be required, including some overseas International
