Overview Merrick & Company is seeking a full‑time Electrical Engineer II to support our Life Sciences (LS) business unit in Kanata. The role focuses on the design of facilities and related power systems for government and private clients, including power generation, facility renovations, research labs multi‑purpose buildings, and other electrical systems. Eligible candidates will work in a hybrid schedule, performing responsibilities from both the office and home as appropriate. Job Description Engineers in this position will conduct facility design, site power design, and power analysis/studies. Responsibilities include conceptual and detailed design of low‑voltage (≤1000 V) power distribution, security and access‑control systems, backup and prime power generation, grounding and lightning protection, lighting, motor control, and facility voice/data communication cabling. Candidates will also develop specifications, perform field investigations, provide construction support, and work independently with senior engineers as needed. Proficiency in Revit and AutoCAD is highly desirable. Required Experience 4–8 years of experience in electrical engineering design. Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) license, or the ability to obtain one within two years of hire. Accredited Electrical Engineering bachelor’s degree. Experience with electrical calculation tools such as AGi32, Elum Tools, EasyPower, ETAP, or SKM Power Tools. Strong proficiency in AutoCAD and Revit drawing generation. Working knowledge of CAN/ULC, NBC, and IEEE regulatory codes. Experience in facilities electrical design. Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word). Canadian citizenship required for client projects. Local candidates are preferred. Physical Requirements Ability to sit for extended periods at a computer workstation. Must be able to work in an environment with open discussions and visitors without distraction. May be required to lift up to 20 lbs.
