Environmental Engineer

As a member of the New Gold Rainy River Mine team, the Environmental Engineer demonstrates commitment and compliance with company Health & Safety, Environment and Social Responsibility policies and procedures. The Environmental Engineer also takes action to ensure that unsafe practices or non-compliant behaviors do not occur.

The Environmental Engineer will support the Environment Department with compliance monitoring programs.

Key Responsibilities

• Collect river flow and water level data, develop rating curves, conduct flow analysis and maintain records and logs.
• Coordinate hydrometric station maintenance.
• Document field observations or readings, and/or downloading data from various pieces of equipment in an outdoor setting in accordance with established procedures.
• Assist on site water balance model development.
• Assist on groundwater model development and updates.
• Lead the preparation of internal and external reports.
• Perform data management and analysis in EQuIS.
• Conduct compliance sampling and monitoring (effluent, surface and ground water quality, ambient air quality, noise, water flow using stream gauging equipment, water levels, soil or vegetation samples when required).
• Assist in developing or updating relevant Standard Operations Procedures (SOPs) and Plans that support site operations requirements incorporating regulatory and license conditions as needed.
• Assist in environmental inspections and identify areas that may be or are out of compliance with permits/regulations.
• Use knowledge of environmental procedures, techniques and regulations to complete tasks.
• Participate and assist in field operation related tasks as needed
• Support Quality Control for the Environmental Management System (EMS).
• Conduct inspections and audits related to quality control and quality assurance on disciplines found in the EMS.
• Provide guidance and constructive feedback to all departments on their environmental management performance with a view to continual improvement.
