Position Summary

The successful candidate will be teaching in classroom, computer laboratory, and field settings in the School of Community and Health Studies. He or she will participate in program and course development, course modifications, program advisory committees, program accreditation, applied research initiatives, community outreach, and ongoing future program needs.

Responsibilities

In addition to teaching assigned courses, the successful candidate will be expected to:

  • Use effective interpersonal communication skills within interactions with students, faculty, management, colleagues from other colleges and universities, community members, and other professionals in internal and external educational and practice settings.
  • Provide and promote a respectful and supportive environment based upon the principles of inclusion, equity, and diversity and learner-centeredness.
  • Work effectively in a team-based work environment, including intra and interprofessional teams.
  • Create a positive teaching and learning environment (e.g., labs, placement, and classroom).
  • Use a variety of appropriate teaching/learning strategies.
  • Use academic technology effectively to engage students in a learner-centered environment.
  • Evaluate student achievement of learning outcomes using a variety of techniques and provide frequent formative feedback as well as summative feedback.
  • Develop, revise, and adapt appropriate learning resources for students.
  • Critically examine learning materials and classroom practices for discriminatory bias or barriers.
  • Provide academic support for students.
  • Develop and revise curriculum using current knowledge of issues and trends related to the food and nutrition management profession in a global environment.
  • Ensure academic quality and integrity are maintained and improved.
  • Support student success through pathways, student retention, and remediation strategies, program quality, and appropriate delivery modalities.
  • Participate in reflective practice for continuing learning and development.
  • Attend meetings, maintain records of student grades/assessments, and participate in activities pertinent to faculty responsibilities.

Qualifications/Experience

  • Bachelor degree in Nutrition.
  • Current membership in the College of Dietitians of Ontario and Registered Dietitian (RD) designation AND/OR current membership with the Canadian Society of Nutrition Management.
  • Work experience within the last three years in both clinical nutrition and food service management.
  • A minimum of 1 year of teaching or training experience at the adult or post-secondary level.
  • Evidence of scholarly work including publications, conference participation, and research projects.
  • Experience in developing course or learning materials.
  • Demonstrated competent written, oral, and interpersonal skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to work both independently and with a team.
  • Demonstrated understanding of diversity, equity, and inclusion to meet the needs of our diverse students, staff, and college community.

Proof of credentials or equivalencies from accredited regional or federal post-secondary institutions and/or their foreign equivalents will be required at the time of job offer.
