Job Description:

Reporting to the Engineering Department Manager, this position will require working in the location of The City of Trail British Columbia, just 3 hours from Kelowna BC and 6.5 hours to Vancouver BC.

Our office provides full engineering, procurement and construction services on a wide variety of industrial projects related to mining, mineral development and processing and hydroelectric generation. Additionally, our engineering team and companywide environmental specialists are focused on Carbon Management & reduction initiatives to provide solutions to energy services to reduce emissions and protect our environment.

The Trail office currently numbers over 50 engineers, designers and support personnel. Trail is an affordable family-oriented community. Responsibilities include:

  1. Developing civil engineering designs (underground piping, storm water management, retention/buffer ponds) for a diverse range of projects, primarily at existing facilities in the mining industry.
  2. Regular site visits and coordination with Construction/Trades Project Lead responsibilities requiring the ability to establish good working relationships and communication with internal and external stakeholders.
  3. Business development to maintain repeat work from key Clients. Coordinate with key personnel and subject matter experts within other Wood offices.
  4. Key technical mentorship would be provided from supporting Wood offices.
  5. Contributing to the preparation of technical specifications and engineering input to material, construction and commissioning packages.
  6. Study execution including material quantity take-offs.
  7. Providing engineering technical support to the field during construction, including responding to RFIs from construction contractors, issuing Site Instructions and performing field reviews.
  8. Involvement in the development of proposals, study reports, engineering specifications, and contract documents.

Requirements:

  • Civil Engineering Degree from a recognized university with designation or ability to register as a Professional with EGBC.
  • 5+ years of relevant industrial engineering experience at various stages of the project life cycle.
  • Capable of developing creative yet practical solutions and is open-minded to alternative solutions.
  • Experienced in the assessment, repair, design, and installation of underground utilities.
  • Experience with underground piping inspection/assessment considered an asset.
  • Experience with CIPP, slip lining, and other utility repair methods considered an asset.
  • Pipeline Inspection Certification (NASSCO or equivalent) considered an asset.
  • Willingness to travel to remote field locations on a short term basis.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills with the ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, high volume and deadline-driven environment.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English.
  • Excellent interpersonal and decision making skills.
  • Positive attitude and ability to effectively work in a multi-discipline team atmosphere is imperative.
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Committed to continual improvement and achieving engineering excellence.
  • Demonstration of specific experience with aspects of Project Engineering and/or Project Management roles including ownership of overall project scope, schedule and budget management would be considered an asset.
