Work Arrangements: Up to a maximum of 20 hours/week.

The Role: The Student Research Assistant, Computing Science, will work with faculty to research and develop virtual reality (VR) and augmented reality (AR) software for science education. Specific duties may include: reviewing current computer graphics and animation literature; investigating VR and AR development techniques; developing and implementing computational methods; and creating and maintaining documentation for science education applications.

Responsibilities:

  1. Provide regular progress reports to the Computing Science faculty.
  2. Present research results by preparing technical reports, writing academic papers, and conducting live demonstrations.
  3. Assist faculty in maintaining applications to ensure compatibility with College equipment.
  4. Assist faculty in preparing research funding proposals.

To Be Successful in this Role You Will Need:

  1. Successful completion of CMPT -2167 with a letter grade of “B+” or better.
  2. Experience with version control software (e.g., Git, Mercurial, or SVN) and open-source documentation systems (e.g., Doxygen).

Eligibility Criteria for Domestic Students:

  1. Enrolled in, and maintain, a minimum of one or more (3 credit) courses at Douglas College throughout the work term; OR
  2. Have been enrolled in, and maintained, a minimum of one or more (3 credit) courses at Douglas College in the term immediately preceding the work term; OR
  3. Enrolled in, and maintain a minimum of two or more (3 credit) courses at another accredited public post-secondary institution in B.C. throughout the work term; OR
  4. Have been enrolled in, and maintained, a minimum of two or more (3 credit) courses at another accredited public post-secondary institution in B.C. in the term immediately preceding the work term.

Eligibility Criteria for International Students:

  1. Enrolled in full-time studies at Douglas College throughout the academic year; OR
  2. International student at another accredited public post-secondary institution in B.C. with a valid Study Permit.

Qualified Douglas College students will be given first preference.
