The City of Campbell River is seeking an experienced Planner II to join our Long Range Planning & Sustainability team.

The role - As part of the Long Range Planning and Sustainability team, you will be working in a fast-paced and customer service-oriented environment. The Planner II is responsible for a diverse workload and will act as a project manager for long range planning and sustainability projects and initiatives. The work involves conducting research and analysis, developing long range plans and policies, delivering public presentations, and providing technical advice to a wide range of internal and external stakeholders. The Planner II will conduct studies on a variety of land use, urban growth, environmental sustainability and community livability initiatives. The Planner II will prepare comprehensive reports, recommendations and policy proposals; draft and amend bylaws; and facilitate public engagement, among other duties. This an opportunity to play a valuable role in the creation of a thriving, inclusive, attractive, vibrant and sustainability-oriented community.

Our ideal candidate will have:

  • Undergraduate degree in Urban, Community or Regional Planning or a related field.
  • Member in good standing with the Planning Institute of British Columbia (PIBC) and actively pursuing full membership as a certified Registered Professional Planner.
  • Four (4) years of progressive planning experience within the last seven (7) years, in community or regional planning, preferable at the local government level.
  • Must possess a valid Class 5 Driver’s Licence and provide and maintain a clean drivers abstract as per City policy.


The current rate of pay for this CUPE bargaining unit position is $43.66 per hour based on a 35-hour work week and includes a comprehensive benefits package. This position is eligible for flexible work arrangements which may include one of the following: compressed work week, earned day off or varied hours.
