As a Behaviour Specialist you will apply assessments, develop and implement concrete and practical mental health and behavioural strategies that can be utilized by all levels of staff and supports within the client’s care network. Reporting to the Manager, and working under the guidance of the Clinical Supervisor, this position works independently and collaboratively providing services to children, youth, and families. PAS is an intensive and intentional youth addiction and mental health day treatment program dedicated to addressing the complex needs of young individuals and their families. This position is within the Children and Youth Department and while PAS is listed as the primary site, based on operational need may provide services to any of the programs in the department. This position has been identified and is anticipated to transition to Recovery Alberta effective September 1, 2024. Description:As a Behaviour Specialist, you will apply assessments, develop and implement concrete and practical mental health and behavioural strategies that can be utilized by all levels of staff and supports within the client’s care network. An essential skill of this position is understanding how behaviour is a form of communication that can be manifested as a result of mental health, trauma, substance use, dynamics that interrupt a youth’s developmental needs, as well as other internal or external behavioral factors. Under the supervision of a clinical supervisor, you will work collaboratively with a multidisciplinary team and stakeholders to provide support to individuals and families. You will explore the underlying needs exacerbated by behavior related to addiction and mental health concerns and provide consultation, behavioural and systemic assessments, interventions that may include capacity building through education and coaching. You will also work with staff and stakeholders including clients, families, and natural environments, development of behavioral support plans to optimize functioning and wellbeing, and case management.

Bachelor’s degree in psychology or related field, combined education and experience will be considered. Minimum of two years' experience in a Mental Health setting. Current Basic Cardiac Life Support - Health Care Provider (BCLS - HCP). Current Non-Violent Crisis Intervention (NVCI) certification. Possession of a valid driver's licence and access to a motor vehicle in good repair for work-related travel.
Additional Required Qualifications:5 years’ experience working concurrently with individuals and families with mental health and addiction through a case management model. Additional experience working with individuals who have addictions, brain injury and/or developmental disabilities / concerns with accompanying behavioural issues. Experience with systemic client-centered care, trauma-informed care, harm reduction, foundational understanding of systems and psychosocial rehabilitation principles. Strong communication, therapeutic relationship, and interpersonal skills in order to navigate and work within multiple systems with diverse needs and resources. Effective computer and organizational skills.
Preferred Qualifications:Knowledge of the Mental Health Act, Child, Youth & Family Enhancement Act, AHS/RA Policies & Procedures and other relevant legislation is an asset. Experience with applied behaviour management strategies (positive approaches), Non-Violent Crisis Intervention, etc.
