Join Hall Constructors as an Estimator This position contributes to the overall organization by bidding on various types of work and handing over successful bids to the project team. This role primarily interacts with the estimating team, and Project Coordinators with the goal of project pursuit and acquisition. Coordination and communication with the operations staff is key to ensure feedback from ongoing projects and input for creating estimates. Contact with clients, subcontractors, and vendors will also be required and the utmost professionalism is expected during these interactions.
You will be responsible for all aspects of estimating including, reviewing bid documents, measuring quantities, developing first principle estimates, procuring and comparing quotes from vendors and subs, and preparing and submitting proposals.
Your day-to-day will look like:
- Support estimating team with competent and timely work.
- Work within the framework of Hall’s estimating and project management guidelines and best practices.
- Manage all takeoffs for the estimate, including assigned Intern or Project Coordinator.
- Read and understand contract documents and specifications.
- Collaborate with other estimators and project coordinators to deliver a competitive bid.
- Communicate with clients and sub-contractors about the estimate frequently throughout the process.
- Maintain accurate bid folders by organizing all addendums, quotes, drawings, and documents.
- Attend all Estimator’s meetings and on/off-site bid meetings.
- Continue to keep up-to-date on current standards and practices in the industry.
You have the following qualifications, technical and interpersonal skills:
Qualifications:- Years of experience: 3 years minimum
- Education: Post Secondary Education or applicable work experience
- Designations: Considered an asset: Past local civil construction experience, AutoCAD experience, BC Class 5 driver’s license
- Programs/Software – HeavyBid and Heavy Job (HCSS)
- Understand how to complete accurate quantity takeoffs for various types of work
- Understand the estimating process and how to organize a bid following Hall’s standards
- Proficient in spoken and written English
- Proficient in Excel, Word, Project, MS Teams, etc.
- Thrives in a face-paced environment, where deadlines are essential to meet
- Ability to excel in a team atmosphere and collaborate with different personalities
- Strong organizing and problem-solving skills
- Good active listening and being willing to learn through observation and absorbing knowledge from coworkers
- Committed & reliable to work with little supervision
- Paying attention to detail and proactively identifying potential issues
- Understand how to prioritize workload and be responsive
- Confidence in one’s own abilities
- Desire to grow within our organization and strive to achieve goals set by supervisor
- Excellent written and verbal English communication
