Job purpose: The sheet metal installer will be responsible for fabricating, installing, and maintaining sheet metal components in residential buildings, primarily focusing on HVAC systems. You will work with various types of sheet metal, such as galvanized steel, aluminum, and copper, to create ductwork and other components necessary for heating, cooling, and ventilation systems.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Interpret HVAC design plans and blueprints to determine the layout and placement of ductwork and other sheet metal components.
  • Select and prepare the appropriate sheet metal materials, ensuring they meet project specifications.
  • Cut, shape, and assemble sheet metal components using hand and power tools, such as shears, brakes, and welding equipment.
  • Install HVAC ductwork, including supply and return ducts, plenums, and registers, in residential buildings following design guidelines and code requirements.
  • Install ventilation components, such as exhaust fans and vents, to ensure proper air circulation and quality.
  • Apply insulation materials to ductwork to improve energy efficiency and minimize heat loss or gain.
  • Seal duct joints and connections to prevent air leaks and conduct pressure tests to verify system integrity.
  • Follow safety protocols and use personal protective equipment (PPE) to ensure a safe working environment for oneself and others.

Skills/Qualifications

  • Proficiency in working with various types of sheet metal and the ability to fabricate and install sheet metal components accurately.
  • 2 years’ experience installing sheet metal in residential new construction is required.
  • Strong understanding of HVAC design plans and blueprints.
  • Familiarity with residential HVAC systems, including duct design and airflow principles.
  • Competence in using hand and power tools commonly used in sheet metal and HVAC work.
