The Role

The Career Services Advisor will provide career advising to NWP Students and Alumni and support the development of employment skills for both Work Integrated Learning (WIL) and general employment opportunities. This position will also provide general career advising to current and prospective students on all campuses, providing clarity on different employment pathways and apprenticeship opportunities. This position will work closely with the Career Services Coordinator in the area of Dual Credit and WIL but will be the primary provider of Career Advising on campus. The Career Services Advisor will play a critical role in the development of employment readiness skills programming (workshops, information sessions, presentations) as well as help with the planning and facilitation of on-campus career events such as Career Fairs and Employer Information Sessions. This position will also support the Dual Credit process by providing support to Dual Credit students throughout the application and enrolment processes, and during the students’ time on-campus. This is a full time term-certain position starting August 19 2024 and ending 31 March 2025. There may be a possibility for extension or re-appointment subject to favourable evaluations and budget.

Job Requirements

The successful candidate will have a Bachelor's Degree in a relevant field of study (i.e. education, social sciences, counseling, public or business administration, or management) and at least 1 year of relevant experience. Some travel off site to local schools, career fairs or other relevant agencies may be required.
Necessary skills and attributes to be successful in this role include:

  • Class 5 Driver's License
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications such as Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook;
  • Strong organizational and multi-tasking skills;
  • Excellent data literacy skills;
  • Ability to build strong relationships across the organization;
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills;
  • A high level of integrity, professionalism and accountability;
  • Previous experience in student advising, career counseling, or related fields;
  • Knowledge of career development theories, job search strategies, and employment trends;
  • Knowledge of resume/cover letter writing, interview preparation skills, job search strategies, and other career coaching skills;
