Detailed Overview

Supporting the Vision, Values, Purpose and Commitments of Fraser Health including service delivery that is centered around patients/clients/residents and families:

The Regional Dietitian Practice Initiatives Lead, Dietitian Services works in collaboration with the health team to establish Fraser Health (FH) as a provincial leader in clinical best practice and patient outcomes. Within all sectors (acute, long-term care and community), provides leadership in implementing, monitoring and evaluating the scope and standards of clinical practice identified by regulatory bodies and FH. Key activities include leadership in knowledge translation, clinical practice assessment, advice, education, and practice development for the purpose of advancing quality clinical practice that results in safe, ethical, quality health outcomes for patients, clients and residents.

Accountable to the Director, Food and Dietitian Strategies & Initiatives and Dietitian Services, the Regional Dietitian Practice Initiatives Lead provides consultation in the use of evidence, knowledge dissemination and collaborative internal/external partnerships to plan, develop, problem solve, implement, and evaluate clinical programs/initiatives. Promotes consistent care to the people we serve, their families and other essential care partners across sites, programs and professions through standardization, integration and promotion of evidence informed best practice.

Works in close collaboration with clinical programs/sites, settings, regional committees/structures, management/operations, Practice Leaders, Professional Practice and external partners. Develops a strong network of partnerships with the goal of promoting and advancing clinical practice at FH.


Responsibilities

  1. Facilitates and recommends program planning that supports best practices, improved access, and efficient flow of the people we serve across the care continuum.
  2. Supports compliance with the legislation and regulations for dietitians (such as the Health Professional Act/Health Professions and Occupations Act) and College of Dietitians of BC Professional Standards of Practice, Professional Scope of Practice, and Ethical Standards of Practice.
  3. Identifies current practice needs and future directions, reviews current best practices, consults with leadership using best utilization methods, developing and documenting implementation plans that may include education, development or revision of decision support tools and documents for FH that supports best practice. Presents recommendations, collaborating with various other operational teams and physicians impacted by changes to practice ensuring deliverables are on time and within mandate.
  4. Achieves Dietitian Services goals and objectives by leading and supporting team activities, analyzing issues, directing project activities, integrating new technology, considering change management and knowledge translation, and developing workplans in collaboration with Dietitian Leadership.
  5. Fosters strategic and working relationships with internal and external partners that result in sharing of knowledge, monitoring practice trends, identification of opportunities to promote innovation, exploration and partnerships for improvement, and ensuring consistent delivery of quality practice/services throughout Dietitian Services.
  6. Participates in quality improvement initiatives in collaboration with Dietitian Leadership.
  7. Collaborates with dietetic educators, Practice Transition and other partners on program enhancements for students and with Dietitian Leaders to support the organization and provision of education to dietitians and students within FH.
  8. Creates and promotes development of research opportunities to ensure evidence-based practice within an interdisciplinary team-based environment.
  9. Managers budget for projects; performs variance analysis to ensure expenditures are within budget projections; undertakes appropriate corrective action, as required.
  10. Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Masters degree in in Nutrition, Dietetics or related discipline from a recognized educational institution and successful completion of an approved dietetic practice education program.

A minimum of seven (7) years' recent related clinical and/or education experience in a complex health care environment including progressive professional practice, education, project management and leadership experience.

Current registration with the College of Dietitians of BC.

Valid BC Driver's Licence and access to a personal vehicle for business-related purposes.

  • Extensive experience/base in clinical practice document/protocol development and implementation.
  • Extensive understanding of Health Professions Act.
  • Demonstrated understanding of Clinical Informatics.
  • Knowledge of health care system, provincial educational systems and regulatory body/association standards.
  • Thorough knowledge and experience working with complex health care organizations.
  • Ability to exercise initiative, creativity and innovative thinking and is current regarding evolving trends and practices. Ability to work collaboratively and participate effectively in a team environment.
  • Proven ability to develop and write proposals.
