We are seeking applications for the position of Vice-Provost, Indigenous Relations (VPIR), who will report to the Provost and Vice-President Academic. The VPIR will collaborate closely with key university leaders and Indigenous stakeholders to advance initiatives for Indigenization, decolonization, and reconciliation, aiming to enhance the experience and engagement of Indigenous faculty, staff, and students at Dalhousie.


Key Responsibilities
  • Serve as the institutional lead for Dalhousie's Indigenous Strategy, ensuring successful implementation and progress tracking.
  • Coordinate and report on various Indigenous initiatives across the university, amplifying the presence of those involved.
  • Develop an Indigenous hiring and retention strategy in consultation with Indigenous communities and support pathways for Indigenous student success.
  • Lead provincially, nationally, and internationally on Indigeneity issues, engaging with Indigenous populations and community organizations.
  • Advocate for Indigenous faculty, staff, and students, focusing on reducing barriers and enhancing engagement.
  • Provide consultative leadership on research involving Indigenous Peoples.

Required Qualifications
  • Be an Indigenous person, preferably Mi'kmaw, Wolastoqiyik, or Peskotomuhkati, with demonstrated leadership experience.
  • Hold a graduate degree or equivalent qualifications.
  • Possess strong communication and relationship-building skills, with an understanding of Indigenous-related policies and practices in post-secondary education.

Assets
  • Strong connections to Indigenous Nations and leaders, academic leadership experience, and knowledge of Indigenous research methodologies are advantageous.
  • Competency in an Indigenous language, experience in academic administration, and financial/human resources management are assets.
