Position Overview

The Regional Associate (RA) will play a pivotal role in fostering connection among churches within their respective regions, their associations, and CBOQ. They will offer support to churches and their boards/leadership to enhance their health and mission, while also ensuring pastoral and ministry leader support. Reporting directly to the Director of Church Life and Leadership (DCLL), the RA will be an integral member of the Church Life and Leadership (CLL) Team. The RA will oversee at least one distinct CBOQ-wide portfolio, determined in consultation with the DCLL and CLL Team, based on the applicants' skills and giftings.

Qualifications and Education Requirements

Requirements:

  • A demonstrated mature faith in Jesus Christ and a commitment to serve through the church
  • Commitment to the mission, faith, and core values of CBOQ
  • Accredited with CBOQ
  • Experience as a pastoral leader within a local church
  • Ability to collaborate with church boards and leadership
  • Experience in leading and forming an organization internally
  • Current or aspiring membership in a local CBOQ congregation
  • Willingness to travel within the CBOQ constituency and more widely as required to represent CBOQ
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and prioritize responsibilities effectively
  • Demonstrated ability to lead and inspire others
  • Master's level degree preferred, with a focus on ministry/theology

Responsibilities:

Congregational Support and Innovation

  • Conduct regular church visits within your region to represent CBOQ, building relationships and connections with church boards, leadership, and pastors.
  • Assess churches for the Revitalization program and guide those interested through the process, offering training and support in areas of restructuring and visioning.
  • Aid churches experiencing conflict, ensuring continued engagement with CBOQ throughout the process.
  • Assist churches seeking pastoral placement by offering guidance on best practices for the hiring process.
  • Ensure churches receive regular communication from CBOQ.
  • Offer training and instruction in discipleship and evangelism to churches in the region.

Leadership and Pastoral Support and Development

  • Discern and assess the need for pastoral care among pastors and their families, providing support or referring to appropriate resources as necessary.
  • Create connections between pastors and leaders to foster mutual support.
  • Discern, through relationships with churches, lay leaders who would benefit from leadership development programs, and encourage and support their involvement.
  • Connect to all new pastors serving in CBOQ churches and provide orientation to CBOQ. Advise new pastors through the accreditation and ordination process, including participation in the planning and facilitation of New Pastors Orientation
  • Intentionally support accredited workers serving outside of churches, including chaplains, retirees and other ministry leaders.

Enhance Connection and Relationships

  • Facilitate regular convening of the associations within their region and support association leaders and moderators.
  • Organize regular gatherings of ministerial connection and development.
  • Maintain regular communication with DCLL and other CBOQ staff and leaders to ensure regional work aligns with the context and parameters of the established budgets, mission, vision, core values, goals, and objectives.
  • Proactively engage with churches that have become disconnected from CBOQ.
  • Spend approx. two Sundays a month visiting churches in their region.
  • Travel to visit churches and pastors in their region during the week.
  • Attend in-person meetings with the CLL Team at least three times a year, CBOQ Assembly and for key events determined by the Director CLL
  • Please note that work related travel expenses are covered according to company policy.

Additional Duties

  • Manage a CBOQ-wide portfolio. Examples include church innovation, resourcing, discipleship, accreditation, ordination, etc. in consultation with the DCLL.
  • Assist in preparing a yearly budget for their role and strive to serve within their budget expectations.
  • Attending regular team meetings online with the CLL team and CBOQ staff.
  • Work collaboratively with CBOQ departments. Some examples but not limited to:
    • NextGen
      • Advocating for and supporting NextGen Ministries regionally and connecting with NextGen Associates for shared initiatives and information
    • Communications and Events
      • Ensuring information sharing and celebration of stories for CBOQ constituents
  • Undertake other tasks as needed to support CBOQ churches in their region and the work of CBOQ.
