Economic Policy Researcher - Automotive & Green Technology

Summer Intern Position (July 8 to August 30, 2024)

Hourly Rate: $21, 35 hours per week

Invest WindsorEssex (IWE) is the lead not-for-profit economic development corporation responsible for advancing economic development to grow and sustain prosperity in the Windsor-Essex region. As a member of the Automobility & Innovation team, the Economic Policy Researcher provides support to help shift the Region from Canada’s Automotive Capital to the Automobility Capital of Canada.

Core Responsibilities

  1. Conduct Economic Development research and analysis on various topics including:
    1. Connecting with Canadian Automobility Companies for a Technical Needs Analysis
    2. Conducting an Ecosystem Scope of Existing Canadian Automobility Programs
    3. Developing a support plan for Automobility Companies
    4. Reporting on the competitive advantage of the Automobility & Innovation Centre
  2. Provide administrative support for AIC contribution agreements received
  3. Support planning and delivery of AIC-funded and hosted hackathons
  4. Support other initiatives being undertaken by IWE

Educational/Skills

  • Student working on a Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree in Business Administration, Economics, Public Administration, Engineering, or related field (Graduate or professional degree preferred)
  • Minimum 2 years’ experience in economic development, business development, strategy, or grant administration
  • Experience and expertise working with upper levels of government on program delivery and program development
  • Strong network and knowledge of funding programs and linkages to the mobility landscape in Windsor-Essex region and beyond
  • Experience in project management, working with diverse stakeholder groups, negotiating contracts and resolving issues with companies and partners
  • Strong planning, analytical, verbal and written communications skills
  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively across private, public, and social sectors
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively to consistently and constructively engage with internal and external partners
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines in a highly dynamic environment
  • Strong sense of integrity and high standards of excellence
  • Strong organizational and time management skills with exceptional attention to detail
  • Experience in developing proposals to access government funding
