The City Water Utility sources its water from Okanagan Lake and provides water to just over half of the Kelowna population. We serve approximately 86,000 residents from four main intakes at Poplar Point, Eldorado and Cedar Creek, and the Swick Road pump stations. Our Water Distribution team currently has an opening for a Water Distribution Operator. Bring your mechanical aptitude along with your EOCP Water Distribution Level I certification and Class 5 BC Driver’s License and assist in the maintenance, repair and construction of the City’s water system.

Duties - Union

• Assists in the maintenance and repair of fire hydrants, gate and butterfly valves, air valves, pressure reducing valve stations and reservoir cleaning.
• Assists in the water main flushing program; valve exercising; operates fire hydrants and valves; gathers water samples and takes chlorine readings and turbidity measurements.
• Locates and performs minor repairs, adjustments, and exercising curb stops.
• Ensures maintenance and repair work is accurately recorded.
• Operates various power and hand tools including but not limited to, jackhammer, tamping machines, threading machines, blow torches, air compressors and vehicles.
• Performs manual labour; enters manholes and works in confined spaces where required.
• Performs work safely and supports the City’s health and safety program.
