The AFN is dedicated to an inclusive selection process and work environment. The Assembly of First Nations (AFN) is an advocacy organization, taking direction and fulfilling mandates as directed by First Nations in-Assembly through resolutions. As a national advocacy organization for First Nations, the AFN seeks to advance First Nations Inherent and Treaty Rights through the development policy, public education and where applicable, the co-development of legislation to build First Nations capacity.

The AFN was created out of a desire among First Nations leadership for a strong and effective collective advocacy organization. From this, values such as respect for human rights, diversity, justice, and the sovereignty of each rights-holding First Nation guide the work of the organization.
Provides updates and shares information regarding planning, policy, funding, and events. Supports the Director with employee relations concerns, performance management and development, recruitment and selection and accommodation processes.
Builds, develops, and maintains strong and productive networks and relationships with national, regional and community First Nations leaders, specialists, organizations, and communities; and government officials (federal, provincial, territorial and municipal).
Represents the AFN in a variety of forums and national, regional, and local engagement sessions.
Supports the Director to align sector activities with political priorities from the National Chief's Office and resolutions from Chiefs-in-Assembly.
Supports the Director in the preparation of quality materials for the National Chief's Office that may include PowerPoints; Assists in planning, coordinating, and participating in Chiefs-in-Assembly (Annual General Assembly and Special Chiefs Assembly) meetings.
Support the Director in the planning, coordination, and implementation of the Sector's Chief Committee, Technical Committee, and/or Working Group.
Supports the Director to advocate federal government Ministers and federal government officials for funding, policy and legislation changes, program changes and implementation, and to influence change that positively impacts First Nations.
Assists in providing the National Chief's access to federal Ministers and high-level government officials.
Assists with planning and preparation of materials for key milestone events, such as pre-budget submissions, the annual report and assembly reports.
Assist with the preparation of sector budget proposals for submission to federal government departments.
Assists the Director with managing and balancing the sector budget.
Post graduate degree in Policy Administration, Indigenous Studies, Political Science, or Law is preferred or a related field of study.
~5 to 7 years of directly relevant senior experience, or equivalent combination of education and experience. Experience managing small teams is preferred.
~ Demonstrated superior verbal and writing communication skills.
~ Demonstrated successful experience working with federal, provincial, territorial, and international governments and officials.
~ Demonstrated superior interpersonal & negotiation skills, management ability, leadership, teamwork and judgement.
~ Diplomacy, tact, decision making ability, planning & organization skills.
~ An ability to communicate in English is required. An ability to communicate in a First Nations Language or French is an asset.

Relevant de la Directeur(trice) Direction de l'environnement le(la) directeur(trice) adjoint(e) chargé(e) de l'Intégration des politiques stratégiques remplit les principales fonctions et responsabilités suivantes :
Fournir des mises à jour et communiquer des informations concernant la planification, les politiques, le financement et les événements. Appuyer la Directeur(trice) en ce qui a trait aux relations avec les employés, à la gestion et à l'amélioration des résultats, au recrutement et à la sélection, ainsi qu'aux processus d'adaptation.
Établir, renforcer et entretenir des réseaux et des relations solides et productives avec les dirigeants, les experts, les organisations et les communautés des Premières Nations aux niveaux national, régional et communautaire, ainsi qu'avec les représentants des gouvernements fédéral, provinciaux, ter VP ritoriaux et municipaux.
Représenter l'APN dans le cadre de divers forums et séances de mobilisation aux niveaux national, régional et local.
Aider la Directeur(trice) à aligner les activités du Secteur sur les priorités politiques du Bureau de la Cheffe nationale et sur les résolutions adoptées par les Chefs-en-assemblée.
Aider la Directeur(trice) à préparer des documents de qualité pour le Bureau de la Cheffe nationale, notamment des PowerPoint, des notes d'allocution, des notes d'information, des notes de service, de la correspondance et d'autres documents, le cas échéant.
Appuyer la Directeur(trice) dans la planification, la coordination et la mise en œuvre du Comité des Chefs, du Comité technique ou du Groupe de travail du Secteur.
Le cas échéant, participer aux réunions des comités parlementaires permanents et des comités sénatoriaux permanents pertinents pour le Secteur afin d'influencer les changements législatifs qui auront des retombées positives pour les Premières Nations.
Le cas échéant, suivre les réunions des comités parlementaires permanents ou y assister.
Appuyer la Directeur(trice) dans ses démarches auprès des ministres et des représentants du gouvernement fédéral pour obtenir un financement, des changements stratégiques et législatifs, des changements aux programmes et leur mise en œuvre, ainsi que pour influencer les changements qui auront des retombées positives pour les Premières Nations.
Contribuer à assurer l'accès de la Cheffe nationale aux ministres fédéraux et aux hauts fonctionnaires du gouvernement.
Aider à la préparation des propositions budgétaires du Secteur à soumettre aux ministères fédéraux.
Diplôme d'études supérieures en administration des politiques, en études autochtones, en sciences politiques ou en droit, de préférence, ou dans un domaine d'études connexe.
~Une expérience de la gestion de petites équipes est préférable.
~ Expérience fructueuse de travail avec les gouvernements et les représentants fédéraux, provinciaux, territoriaux et internationaux.
~ Aptitudes supérieures en matière de relations interpersonnelles et de négociation, capacité de gestion, leadership, esprit d'équipe et jugement.
~ Diplomatie, tact, capacité à prendre des décisions, compétences en matière de planification et d'organisation.
~ L'aptitude à communiquer en anglais est requise. La capacité à communiquer dans une langue des Premières Nations ou en français constitue un atout.
